At today’s EnterpriseAM Finance Forum, Walid Hassouna, CEO of Valu, explored the pivotal role of Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs), particularly within the realms of consumer finance, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), and fintech. During an insightful panel discussion, he drew parallels with global peers and examined their influence on local market models. Walid also highlighted how Valu effectively serves a diverse customer base, providing valuable insights into non-performing loans (NPLs), risk assessments, credit scoring, and more. Additionally, he discussed how inflation impacts market dynamics and product offerings, emphasizing the need for adaptability in pricing strategies and tenure lengths. By shortening tenures, Valu has encouraged consumers to engage more readily, even in the face of rising costs. Furthermore, Valu has invested considerable effort into establishing itself as a versatile payment method rather than being perceived solely as a BNPL provider. The goal is to empower consumers to feel encouraged to use Valu anytime and anywhere. This engaging dialogue underscored the evolving landscape of finance and the innovative strategies that drive success in today’s economy.

Today at the EnterpriseAM Finance Forum, our Group CEO took center stage to address investor concerns, including the challenges and opportunities of raising equity internationally. He emphasized the potential for increased foreign direct investment (FDI) if international investors see a strong commitment from local private sector companies and multinationals in Egypt to expand their operations by increasing their investments. Looking ahead to 2025, Awad provided insights into both the Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and Debt Capital Markets (DCM), highlighting an optimistic outlook for lending in Egypt. He noted that as interest rates are projected to decrease, the lending environment is expected to improve, driven by a large and growing consumer base. Awad also examined the Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFI) sector, showcasing our consumer finance offerings that have successfully reached 600,000 clients. This achievement reflects the resilience and growth potential of the sector, which plays a crucial role in supporting economic activity. Additionally, he argued that tourism should be prioritized as a key national project. This sector requires relatively low foreign currency investment while generating significant returns in USD, making it a vital area for economic development. Awad’s insights underscore a future filled with promise and opportunity for Egypt’s economy.
