PROTECT THE BLUE, TRAVEL GREEN!

About us

We are an international NGO that directly carries out conservation and restoration projects through practical and direct action in collaboration with our experienced marine biologists and communities all around the world. We currently have coral reef, mangrove forest, and seagrass bed restoration projects in many countries around the globe. We also promote sustainable guidelines for and certify tourist attractions, activities, and amenities (hotels, resorts, dive centers, whale-watching boats, etc.) in sustainability, and help them in their endeavors to become global leaders in sustainable tourism. We initiate further action by educating our audiences about ocean conservation topics, to promote the highest green standards and inspire positive environmental change on a global scale. Our Mission: Our mission is to teach, train and empower individuals, communities, and companies to take the next right steps in saving our oceans by carrying out restoration projects and promoting sustainable tourism while spreading oceanic conservation awareness through educational activities and scientific research. Our Vision: We believe that empowering local, and often underrepresented, communities to directly carry out and manage their own ecosystem restoration projects can be a leading force towards combating climate change, building up communities, and empowering everyone to protect our planet. At the Oceancy we believe that sustainability is a key component of our future. We are passionate about working towards a new era where the protection of nature and wildlife has a predominant role in our daily lives. Our number one enemy as a species and a planet is climate change. We know that all of this is no simple task, but we believe that we can win this battle if we act together, now! Join our community at the Oceancy to re-think and design a new way of combatting problems like climate change through direct action towards sustainability.

"Here are 9 easy ways to help protect sea lions! 1. Support marine conservation organizations: Donate to reputable organizations dedicated to sea lion conservation. Your contributions fund research, rescue efforts, and habitat protection initiatives. 2. Promote responsible fishing practices/reduce seafood consumption/Care about and educate yourself on where your food comes from: Choose sustainable seafood options to help minimize sea lions being caught as bycatch. Furthermore, like dolphins, sea lions are often viewed as "competition" for many in the fishing industry and are often targeted as such. 3. Reduce plastic pollution: Minimize single-use plastics and participate in beach cleanups to prevent plastic waste from harming sea lions. 4. Respect their natural habitat: Observe sea lions from a safe distance, avoid disturbing their resting areas or breeding sites, and do not approach or feed them. 5. Educate others: Raise awareness about sea lion conservation by sharing information and advocating for their protection. 6. Care about and combat climate change! Changing ocean temperatures affect all marine fauna negatively on multiple fronts. For example, the water temperature changes, if they even have the time to adjust, fish populations are often redistributed making it harder for some animals to find food. 7. Support local regulations and marine protected areas (MPAs): Stay informed about local regulations and guidelines for sea lion conservation. Advocate for the establishment and enforcement of marine protected areas. 8. Reduce ocean pollution: Properly dispose of waste and support initiatives to reduce pollution in our oceans, as chemical pollutants can harm sea lions and other marine life. 9. Engage in responsible tourism: Choose tour operators and activities that prioritize the well-being and conservation of sea lions. Support eco-friendly wildlife tourism that minimizes disturbance. Thank you for caring and trying your best! We see you!" #oceanconservation #HowToProtectSeaLions (Text taken from @ActuallyThisTime *Same writer as The Oceancy)

"Here are some easy things to do in order to protect dolphins, today! 1. Choose responsible whale/dolphin watching over captivity and boycott marine parks and swimming with dolphin pool attractions! Due to their echolocation capabilities, physical and psychological needs, whales and dolphins can't be kept healthy and happy in captivity, so it's best to visit them in their natural habitats. 2. Care about where your food comes from and eat more plant-based foods! Many dolphins are killed as bycatch in the fishing process and even hunted to use as bait. Dolphins are also often slaughtered because they are considered the competitors of fishermen. 3. Properly disposing of your trash responsibly helps us keep our oceans clean and safe for wildlife! 4. Use your voice, platform or wallet to help dolphin and marine conservation efforts! Even if you are not in a position to do more - maybe a friend, follower or family member of yours is! A good place to start is by sharing this post or visiting Rick O’Barry’s @dolphin_project and sharing their posts! 💪 5. Care about and combat climate change! Changing ocean temperatures affect all marine fauna negatively on multiple fronts. For example, the water temperature changes, if they even have the time to adjust, fish populations are often redistributed making it harder for some animals to find food. 6. Learn! Educate yourself on dolphins and the threats they face. We recommend checking out The Cove on Netflix! 7. Petition governments to enact better legislation. While individuals can, of course, make a huge difference, changes on the governmental level will make the biggest impacts. 8. Similarly to point one, avoid cruise ships. They are notorious for hurting our oceans in multiple ways - one being they very often injure and kill animals like whales, dolphins and whale sharks in strikes. Keep doing your part to protect marine life today and everyday! Together we can keep making positive changes - and we see you trying! Thank you so much for caring! 🥰🌍💪💙🐬" #OceanConservation #MarineConservation #Dolphins (Text taken from @ActuallyThisTime *Same writer as The Oceancy)

"How to Protect Sharks! 🦈 1. Care About and Understand Where Your Seafood Comes From and Say No to Shark Meat: Avoid consuming shark meat, as it contributes to the demand for shark products and puts additional pressure on their populations. Learn the alternative words for shark meat and avoid them on menus. Some words include: Flake, Huss, Dogfish, Rock Salmon, Whitefish, Sea Steak, Blacktip, Mako, Rog, Swell, Lemon fish, Oilfish, Smooth hound, Soupfin, Grayfish, Paladin and Terciopelo. Sharks are also often harmed as bycatch in the fishing industry, so cutting down sea food consumption is also important! 2. Say NO to Other Shark Products: Avoid purchasing products made from shark fins, oil, teeth, or cartilage. Make sure you check the ingredient list on your cosmetic products (shark is often used under the name "squalene/squalane"). Shark is also found in many garden fertilizers. 3. Educate Others: Spread awareness about the importance of protecting sharks! Sharks, despite not actually being dangerous to humans, get a bad rap and this undeserved negative attitude towards sharks is often used to justify their mistreatment. Educate your friends and family about the plight of sharks and the role they play in maintaining the global ecosystem. Sharks may be the most important animal on the entire planet - see our other posts to learn why! 4. Advocate for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs): Support the establishment of marine protected areas that offer safe havens for sharks and other marine life. 5. Support Shark Conservation Organizations: Contribute to organizations working to protect sharks and their habitats through donations or volunteering. (Please like, share, save, and comment on this post if you can - it helps the algorithm push the information out to more people! 💪 As always, thank you for caring; we are stronger together! 🌍💪💙)" #SaveTheSharks #SharkConservation #NoSharkFinning #SustainableSeafood #MarineProtectedAreas #WildlifeConservation #NatureConservation#Sustainability #OceanConservation #MarineConservation (Text taken from @ActuallyThisTime *Same writer as The Oceancy)

"Here are some easy ways to help protect sea turtles, today! 1. Donate to reputable organizations focused on sea turtle conservation. Your contributions fund research, rescue efforts, habitat restoration, and public education programs. Green sea turtles rely heavily on sea grass meadows as their main food source. If you are able visit TheOceancy.org/donate to help restore seagrass ecosystems! 2. Minimize the use of single-use plastics, recycle and participate in beach cleanups to prevent plastic from entering the ocean. 3. Care about and combat climate change! Changing ocean temperatures affect all marine fauna negatively on multiple fronts. For example, sea turtle sex is determined by the temperature at which the egg is incubated. As the temperatures change and rise only female turtles will hatch and there will be no more males to continue the species. 4. Spread awareness about the importance of sea turtle conservation. Share information about their life cycle, threats they face, and ways to protect their habitats. Inspire others to take action and make sustainable choices. Share this post! 5. If you encounter a nesting turtle, observe from a distance and avoid disturbing her or the nest. Follow local guidelines and regulations to ensure the protection of nesting areas. Avoid leaving behind any trash, fill in holes dug in the sand, and never disturb sea turtle nests or hatchlings. 6. Use sea turtle-friendly lighting near coastal areas to prevent hatchlings from becoming disoriented. Shield or redirect outdoor lights to minimize their impact on nesting beaches. 7. Promote sustainable tourism: Choose eco-friendly tour operators that prioritize the well-being of sea turtles and their habitats. 8. Support the establishment and expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs) that include critical sea turtle habitats. Encourage policymakers to enforce regulations and safeguard these areas from destructive activities.
