🌊 What is Aquaculture? 🌊 Aquaculture, also known as fish farming, is the practice of cultivating aquatic organisms such as fish, shellfish, seaweed, and other marine species in controlled environments. It plays a crucial role in providing sustainable seafood and reducing the pressure on wild fish populations. Why is #Aquaculture Important? 🐟 Helps meet the growing demand for seafood without depleting wild fish stocks. 🐟 Contributes to the global food supply by providing a reliable source of protein. 🐟 Properly managed aquaculture can help restore habitats, replenish wild stocks, and reduce the impact of overfishing. 🐟 Creates jobs and supports livelihoods in coastal and rural communities. Types of Aquaculture: 🌿 Marine Aquaculture: Farming species that live in the ocean such as salmon, oysters, and seaweed. 🌿 Freshwater Aquaculture: Cultivating species that thrive in freshwater environments like catfish and tilapia. 🌿 Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA): Combining different species in a single system to mimic natural ecosystems and enhance sustainability. How Can You Support Sustainable Aquaculture? 🔍 Choose seafood that is certified by sustainable aquaculture standards. 🔍 Learn about the origins of your seafood and support local aquaculture producers. 🔍 Spread awareness about the benefits of aquaculture and its role in ocean conservation. At Oceanogami, 🌊 we are committed to promoting sustainable aquaculture practices that ensure a healthy balance between human needs and marine conservation. Dive into the world of aquaculture with us and discover how it can help create a sustainable future for our ocean. 💙 #Aquaculture #SustainableSeafood #MarineConservation #Oceanogami #Sustainability #SeafoodLovers #BlueEconomy #OceanResponsibility

Happy #MPADay! What do you know about the 🌊 Zembra Marine and Coastal Protected Area (MCPA)? 📍 Located in Tunisia and established in 1977, this 50.9 km² park (47km² of it is the marine area) is a sanctuary for diverse habitats, including rocky cliffs, seagrass meadows, and coral reefs. It’s also home to an array of species like dolphins, seabirds, turtles, and fish. 🐟 🐢 🐬 Despite challenges 🔴 like biodiversity loss, pollution, climate change, and human activities, the MCPA implements innovative solutions 💡 such as habitat restoration, sustainable fishing, eco-friendly tourism, and integrated governance. 🌿 The co-management of the Zembra MCPA includes protecting its rich marine ecosystems, biodiversity hotspots, and cultural heritage sites, with a strong focus on stakeholder involvement and sustainable practices. 🤔 But how can it improve? What opportunities can it seize? 👉As with many MPAs, the potential lies in partnerships, innovative research, community engagement, sustainable tourism, and policy support. What is evident is that the Zembra and Zembretta National Park is a 💙 model 💙 of marine conservation, showcasing how collaboration can thrive to protect and restore our precious marine environments. Stay tuned for more as we explore other Mediterranean MPAs! #MarineConservation #Zembra #SustainableFishing #EcoTourism #OceanProtection #MarineBiodiversity #OceanResponsibility

📢 Important New Analysis on Marine Protected Areas 🌊 A recent study reveals a significant gap between the quantity and quality of marine protection. Despite the growth in protected areas, only 2.6% of the global ocean is effectively safeguarded. 📉 🔑 Key Recommendations for Policymakers – Quality Over Quantity: MPAs that are unimplemented or incompatible with conservation should not count towards targets. Resources and attention are essential to manage MPAs and exclude harmful activities like industrial fishing and mining. 🐟🚫 📊 Level of Protection Indicator: Global MPA reporting should include Level of Protection as an indicator. Fully and highly protected areas, which offer the greatest benefits, should be prioritized to meet GBF Target 3. 🏆 🌍 Comprehensive Planning: MPA planning must consider ecosystem and biogeographic representativity, ensuring procedural and distributional equity. Emphasize coastal areas and regions near mainland waters over remote EEZ areas for more effective conservation. 🏞️ 🌐 High Seas Treaty: Ratification and implementation of the High Seas Treaty are urgent to protect areas beyond national jurisdiction. High seas MPAs are crucial to meet GBF Target 3 and should prohibit industrial-scale activities. ⚖️ Over the past decade, MPA coverage has increased significantly. To meet the #30by30 target of conserving at least 30% of the ocean by 2030, it is crucial to enhance the quality and representativeness of MPAs. A representative network of MPAs prioritizing biodiversity across at least 30% of the ocean is essential. 🐠🌿 The MPA Europe Project is leading the way, mapping a representative, coherent, and adequate network of MPAs across Europe’s seas. Learn more about our project here: MPA Europe. 📄 Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/gTBD4FWU #MarineConservation #MPA #Sustainability #BlueEconomy #OceanProtection #GBFTarget3 #HighSeasTreaty #30by30 #Conservation
