💡Do you know how energy prices are set? In energy markets, energy prices are determined through a system called the merit order, which is essentially a ranking system that prioritizes the most efficient, affordable energy resources to meet demand: ↳ Renewables (wind and solar) are prioritized at the top due to their nearly zero marginal costs. ↳ Nuclear comes next, offering relatively low-cost energy but higher than renewables. ↳ Coal follows, with moderate costs and a higher carbon footprint. ↳ Gas and Diesel are the most expensive sources, used as a last resort.
