CEO of CARÁ Health - Estonian HealthTech Startup of 2023 | Innovating in Female Health and Well-being | Advocate for Digitalisation in Maternity Care
Over the past few years, there have been an increasing number of McKinsey reports focused on female health and femtech. The report I am sharing today focuses on women’s health and the $1 trillion opportunity to improve lives and economies. Here are a few key takeaways: Economic Impact & Return on Investment: Closing the health gap women face could add at least $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040, increasing the average per capita GDP generated by women by 1.7%. The return on investment in women’s health is compelling—every $1 invested can generate approximately $3 in economic growth. Pregnancy Complications & Chronic Illnesses: Conditions like gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes can significantly increase the risk of chronic illnesses later in life. Prioritizing maternal health not only benefits the mother and baby but also has long-term health implications. Health Equity: True health equity means ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has access to the right healthcare interventions. For women, this begins with understanding and accessing the best outcomes for their unique health needs. Data Gaps in Maternal Health: A lack of comprehensive data, especially in low- and middle-income countries, hinders our ability to provide adequate healthcare services for pregnant women and new mothers. This data gap makes pregnancy and childbirth more dangerous and complicates policy prioritization. Access & Affordability Challenges: Women often face barriers related to healthcare costs. For example, on average, Swiss women pay more than 12 percent extra for supplementary hospital insurance, with greater disparities in specific age groups. This week's 'Impact Startups to Watch' are focused on developing #femtech solutions, specifically for #pregnancy and #postpartum care. Giving birth is a demanding experience, both physically and mentally, and many mothers need additional support during the period following the birth of their child. These apps and services adopt a holistic approach to supporting postpartum mothers. LEIA Health is on a mission to redefine postpartum health through a combination of science, AI and the lived experience of motherhood. Momsanity App is an app that supports mothers in dealing with postpartum depression (PPD). CARÁ Health provides an all-inclusive health and wellness platform tailored to nurture and empower women throughout their maternity experience. Postpartum Plan is revolutionising postpartum care for parents, corporates and our society. Through online membership, employee benefit offerings, corporate training and partnerships, they bring together all the experts that new parents should have access to: from mindset to movement, recovery to recipes. Parentally is the go-to platform for new and future parents looking for extra care and support at any stage of their parenthood journey, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenthood. #impactentrepreneurship #femtech

Two years ago, Carina Vantsi, Keiro Vantsi, and I realized that the concept we created with CARA had high scalability potential. On our way to and from the office, we would listen to various podcasts, including The Pursuit of Scrappiness Podcast, learning and being inspired by the best founders from the Baltics. And in my case, also listening to the Fast & Curious Podcast from Lea-Sophie Cramer and Verena Pausder. During one ride to the office, Verena and Lea mentioned in their podcast how inspired they were by Estonia and how Germany could learn many things from it. They were eager to visit, so I wrote them an email, and a few months later, they arrived in Tallinn together with Lili Vogelsang. Now, two years later, after CARÁ Health's expansion into Germany, we hosted an event for Lea's new life chapter in our CARÁ Berlin Space. You can hear all about it in the latest episode of their podcast! I guess the two biggest lessons here are to grab the chance and reach out to people, and you'll always see each other a second time! 🤍 https://lnkd.in/dKbnufuH
