Fenris Unleashed

There's nothing really new or original about Fenris as a villainous group. Their influences are things you likely already know. There are pieces of Marvel's Hydra in Fenris, and there are pieces of Cobra in their make up. As children were were taught that fascists were bad, and that we should oppose them. Cartoon-like villain are easy to dislike, because of how they are exaggerated. We think "No one can be like that in the real world" but it turns out that we're wrong. In a way, turning the villainy of fascism into cartoons is a part of what strengthened its rise in the real world. We think that these are things that we only see in cartoons and comic books, but this form of villainy is all too real.

In the game Fenris wants to kill, and they want to conquer the world, because they feel that people being different from them takes away from their uniqueness, from their power. But diversity isn't a pie, or a zero sum game. One group being raised up does not lower another, in a perfect world it puts them all on an equal footing. However, for people who are used to thinking that they are the default, that they are where they are because of merit, especially when this is not true, think that equality is their oppression. This is when the evil of fascism takes root.

Groups like Fenris need to be combatted, not just within the fiction spaces of role-playing games, but also out in our real world. Not everyone can combat these evils like their characters might be able to in a game like Adventures in the Unknown, but that doesn't mean that you can't try to fight in the ways that work for you.
