South Dakota Seal of Biliteracy available to high school graduates
South Dakota students who are on track to graduate from high school are now able to earn the South Dakota Seal of Biliteracy. This recognition, developed by the South Dakota Department of Education, is available for those students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and another language.

Eligible families may apply for free or reduced-price meals for school year 2024-25
Applications will be provided to households by their local school or agency. Families that are directly certified as eligible for free meals will receive a notice of eligibility from their school.

Three sets of content standards now under review
According to the schedule adopted by the South Dakota Board of Education Standards, three sets of academic content standards are now under review: Computer Science, English Language Arts, and Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings and Standards. The first of four public hearings regarding the proposed standards will be held at the board's Sept. 16 meeting in Aberdeen.

FAQs on youth suicide prevention training requirement
Changes to SDCL 13-42-71 (suicide awareness and prevention training) took effect
July 1. Verification of completed suicide awareness and prevention training has moved from the certification process to the accreditation process. Approved trainings are posted on the Department of Education's Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training page.
