Our Speckle Community is strong in Copenhagen 🇩🇰 Last Thursday I presented some of our LINK IO Speckle-enabled workflows with a curious audience 👀 It was a pleasure to share the stage and a motivating panel with Chuck D. from #Speckle, Zuzanna Czapla from SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Ryan Hughes from Graph and Martin Romby Hauge from Real-Time LCA/ABC - Rådgivende Ingeniører. #SpeckleLCA was only sneak-peaked, since the hard launch will be at #SpeckleCon in London (Nov 13-14th). 🎧 All Mic'd Up at #BIMWorldCPH! 🎧 We had a fantastic time presenting The Augmented Architect® – Sustainable Innovations in a unique "silent disco" format, where everyone in the audience wore headsets. With all seats filled and many standing to follow along (without being able to hear anything!), it was clear that the interest in leveraging digital tools for sustainable architecture is higher than ever! A special thank you to Karoline Brekke Lauvrak, Fabian Sellberg, and Mathias Sønderskov Schaltz for their fantastic presentations and incredible support in preparing everything. Last week, I had the opportunity to present my latest research paper, "Point Cloud Segmentation & 3D Model Construction," at the Design Modelling Symposium in Kassel. The paper introduces a pipeline aimed at promoting the sustainable use of our built environment. 🚧 My research focuses on: 1️⃣ Segmenting point clouds for resource mapping of vacant buildings, helping us better understand and utilize available resources. 2️⃣ Simplifying automated 3D model construction for early-phase environmental analysis and adaptive reuse assessments. The ultimate goal of my work is to provide better insights and encourage a more conscious approach to managing the resources we have. Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting a tool that we developed as part of the #MinTre research project. The research project has a goal to minimize wood waste in buildings. We set out to do some automated and optimized facades only to see that the biggest impact we can achieve here is actually by proposing a new method of documenting the materials that are being used. We found that we lack the information that is important to have when a building is set to be reused. We proposed thus that the documentation process starts as early as possible with automated reports and automated geometry to make it as easy as possible to do it at all stages. For buildings to be circular our digital models have to be circular too. The input of one model can be the export of some other model. My biggest takeaway from the conference was that we all feel the pressure of climate change. It is a big challenge and is going to require everybody’s contributions from lawyers and lawmakers to data scientists and engineers. Thanks Klosser Innovasjon for a thought provoking conference.
