We are delighted to see ReWind centrally featured in SSE Renewables' Sustainability Report again in 2024 for their circularity reporting!  "In 2023/24, SSE Renewables became a pilot partner for the ReWind Tool developed by DNV. This is an innovative software package which allows owners and operators of Wind Turbines Generators (WTGs) to profile their assets and make informed decisions about the best solutions for end-of-life. The tool has the capability to model a full bill of materials for wind turbines, data which is not typically available from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for legacy assets. We piloted the ReWind tool on a number of live operational assets to provide validation feedback to DNV and to gain independent and robust profiling of our assets and the materials embodied in them. 📍 Sweden has submitted its National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP)! In our most recent assessment of the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs), we take a closer look how Sweden in developing a CCS strategy in its national strategy! 1️⃣ CO2 capture: Although the Plan does not include a specific target on CO2 capture, it does provide an assumption of capturing 1.5 Mt of CO2 by 2030. 2️⃣ CO2 transport: The Plan only mentions CO2 transport via ship transportation, without any direct mention of infrastructure support. 3️⃣ CO2 storage: Storage is not specifically mentioned, but Sweden is looking to cooperate with Norway to assess the potential of storage sites. 4️⃣ Financial resources: Funding is directly available for CO2 removal technologies. For point source CCS, financial resources are allocated from a single funding programme. Overall, Sweden is moving towards a national CCS strategy. On top of that, the Swedish CCS community is being supported by the Industrial Leap Programme which is currently deploying €130 million per year until 2031. Like in 2023, Finland is again in the lead of the competition for most often occurring negative prices during H1-2024. This is another symptom of the severe flexibility deficit we currently have in Finland, manifesting itself either in security of supply and affordability concerns or in energy waste. For both, the cure is more flexibility from both demand and supply, not forgetting a need for an adequate national, Nordic and European energy infrastructure.

A record-breaking electricity interconnector that enables the UK and Denmark to share renewable energy for the first time - congratulations to National Grid's Viking Link, which wins our 2024 Major Project Award for Sustainability. Denmark’s power generation is primarily from wind power, which complements the UK’s own renewable energy mix. When there is a surplus of Danish wind power and high UK demand, the link means that renewable power can be quickly and flexibly imported to the UK via the high voltage direct current interconnector - enough to power up to 2.5 million homes. When the UK’s demand is low, Viking Link distributes the power across Denmark, ensuring secure, affordable and sustainable electricity for both countries. At 475 miles (765 km), Viking Link is the longest land and subsea interconnector in the world. The £1.7 billion project to construct it began in 2020, with the completed link moving into commercial operations in December 2023.
