The three-day strike in US East Coast ports became a battle for the truth, as both sides made claims about the opposing party. Claims related to the cost of handling a container and accusations from both sides that the other side refused to come to the negotiating table became commonplace. The INTERNATIONAL LONGSHOREMENS ASSOCIATION and UNITED STATES MARITIME ALLIANCE LIMITED remain gridlocked on topics such as automation, and the current master contract will thus expire on Jan. 15, after which the two parties are expected to continue the negotiations. #shipping #business #oceanfreight #logistics

The danger of 45,000 dockworkers walking off the job in the coming months, causing renewed freight chaos in supply chains and the container market, has by no means passed. In a letter to International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) members on Saturday, ILA president Harold J. Daggett, explains the reason why members will not immediately receive the agreed wage increase of 61.5 per cent. The ILA wants to retain the right to strike during the upcoming negotiations with employers until 15 January 2025. ”If we were to accept the wage increase now, we would have to sign a no-strike clause. This would give the employers the leverage to block us from addressing other crucial issues," Harold J. Daggett emphasises. #shipping #containermarket #port #strike
