The long-announced strike from the ILA union was put into effect on October 1st, as expected. After 3 days, the strike was then ended, as the ILA and the USMX, reached a temporary agreement. The agreement was seemingly firm on salary increase, but also mentioned that other matters were still not resolved, and thus there is a new deadline of January 15th to get those resolved. MSC and Gemini have completely opposite networks. One focused on direct services, the other using extensive hub and spoke setup. How does that impact the transit times they are each promoting? Turns out the conclusion is pointing in two different directions.. ETS (European Union’s Emissions Trading System) is the de-facto carbon taxation for shipping in the EU. All vessels sailing within, or to and from the EU, need to pay a carbon emission tax, which is payable on 100% of their emissions between two EU ports, and on 50% of the emissions between an EU and a non-EU port. We mapped the reportable ETS sailing distance from a non-EU to an EU port, for each service in the new 2025 alliances and MSC networks To follow the Sunday Spotlight, please contact [email protected] for further information. #seaintelligence #containershipping #ETS #carbontax

The new networks announced by MSC, Premier Alliance, and Gemini Cooperation are much more creative in inserting port calls close to EU, in their Asia-Europe networks from 2025, compared to the existing Ocean Alliance network. This will create a cost disadvantage for Ocean Alliance. To follow the Sunday Spotlight, please contact [email protected] for further information. #seaintelligence #containershipping #ETS #network

According to currently available information, our best estimate is that MSC’s standalone services will increase to 61% of their global deep-sea network for 2025, with another 13% attributed to VSA’s, and 26% to slot sharing agreements To follow the Sunday Spotlight, please contact [email protected] for further information. #seaintelligence #containershipping #services #routings

Global demand growth is highly lopsided. When looking at TEU growth, and therefore not the effect of the Red Sea crisis, what appears as relatively strong global growth, is in reality mainly driven by imports to North America To follow the Sunday Spotlight, please contact [email protected] for further information. #seaintelligence #containershipping #growth #RedSea
