Denmark is among the world leaders in diabetes treatment and insulin production. If only one person can be mentioned as the reason, it is Hans Christian Hagedorn. As the captain of the Nordic Insulin Laboratory, he led the journey that transformed the once deadly disease, diabetes, from one that people died from to one they could live with. His life was exceedingly tumultuous - guided by a strong moral compass - often leading him right into the eye of the storm. To celebrate the Novo Nordisk Foundation's 100th anniversary, we are sharing our entire collection of historical videos. Watch or revisit the series about H.C. Hagedorn's life: https://lnkd.in/dKZ6Mbdg #diabetes #insulin #history #treatment

A new study aims to find out exactly how certain diets and exercise can help people with type 2 diabetes manage their condition, and even take them into remission. Søren Gregersen, Clinical Professor at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus (SDCA), is leading the ambitious project, which will run over six years and involve 1,500 participants. The Novo Nordisk Foundation is funding the study – called ON LiMiT (Optimal Non-pharmacological Lifestyle Modifications Among Patients with T2DM) – with a grant of up to DKK 102 million. #diabetes

When Thorvald Pedersen gives his New Year’s speech in 1955, Novo is on a roller-coaster ride. Having hit rock bottom in the 1940s, the company has hit new heights with its Lente insulins. Opportunities in an expanding European Community are growing, but so is international competition. However, the factory on Fuglebakken has become too cramped. The brothers, who hate spending money they do not have, are now forced to invest more money than they can afford. To celebrate the Novo Nordisk Foundation's 100th anniversary, we are sharing our entire collection of historical videos. Combatting climate change and ensuring global food security to sustainably feed a growing population are key missions for the Novo Nordisk Foundation. This week, the Foundation is participating in several events and meetings as part of #ClimateWeekNYC to raise awareness about the potential of bio-based solutions (biosolutions) in supporting sustainable agriculture and developing better food systems. Yesterday, we took part in a High-level Roundtable on the biological revolution in food and agriculture, hosted by The Food & Bio Forum and Denmark In New York. The roundtable brought together key stakeholders from the food and agriculture sector to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing. Discussions explored how #biosolutions can replace fossil-based alternatives, increase crop resilience, and create more climate-friendly food systems. We extend our thanks to the diverse range of participants from both the private and public sectors for their engaging discussions on fostering a supportive environment for the green transition of our future food systems.

To celebrate the Novo Nordisk Foundation's 100th anniversary, we are sharing our entire collection of historical videos. Following the previously shared videos on August Krogh, we turn the spotlight on the Pedersen brothers, continuing our journey through time. The discovery of insulin in 1921 rapidly changes diabetes from being a deadly disease to a disease you can live with. In Denmark, insulin also kick-starts a long-running feud between two companies: Nordisk Insulinlaboratorium, led by the powerful doctor Hans Christian Hagedorn – and the breakaway group of Harald and Thorvald Pedersen, who surprisingly make a success of Novo Terapeutiske Laboratorium.
