    A sunny welcome back to our student group after yesterday's great kick-off to our 3-day innovation workshop! At GEA we're hosting 11 students that work alongside our experts with help from our innovation friends from Nosco to help our customers reduce CO2 emissions. GEA supports the global transition to a Net Zero emissions economy like we helped tackle SOx/NOx emissions to combat acid rain when developing spray drying absorption technology back in the days. I'm happy to see GEA supporting initiatives like this and looking forward to the rest of the week! #gea #nosco #sustainathon

    Companies that invest in innovation are also better wired for adopting new technologies such as GenAI❗ In a recent survey by McKinsey & Company, the relation between companies with strong innovation cultures and the adoption of new technologies, in particular generative AI, is investigated and the result is clear: companies that invest in building a strong innovation culture are also better wired for adopting the new technologies that will inevitably impact all companies at some point. We are pleased (and not surprised) to see that the same practices we help companies build, are also the ones that enable them to better adopt new technologies: understand the underlying problem to solve, work according to agile principles, assemble diverse teams, run tests on selected use cases and navigate across all organisational levels.     “Make innovation everybody’s business” is Nosco’s core philosophy and guiding principle, but what does that really mean❓ In Nosco, we believe in the inherent power of everyone to create and innovate. This means that innovation can come from anywhere within an organisation. Our platform and services revolve around the principles of openness and transparency 👐, and we believe that innovation gets better via engagement and collaboration 🤝. How this is put into practice by the customers we work with, is however very different. We work with many different organisational functions, from innovation managers to operational functions, and our platform engages anywhere from a few handful to thousands of people. It is an ongoing discussion among researchers how to best organise for innovation and who to involve in innovation initiatives. We follow this discussion with great interest - follow this link 👇 for some recent insights.  In our view, there is no one size fits all, but are some core principles worth considering when finding out what works best for you: 1️⃣ Find the link between innovation and strategy. Innovation is crucial to all companies, but in many cases, the specific role of innovation is unclear. Creating a clear vision for innovation is the first step in finding out how to best structure innovation in your company. 2️⃣ Assess the appetite for innovation among managers. Although stated in strategic plans, it is not certain that all managers see the same need for innovation. Management backing is crucial for successful innovation, and you will thus need to understand their view on innovation.  3️⃣ Weigh in on your organisation. Consider the type of people you are working with, their capacity and susceptibility for innovation, and how to best engage with them. This will help you find out how to get people engaged and where to best spend your energy.  4️⃣ Choose a place to start. Who has an important problem they need help solving?     Helping Executives Become Rockstars Through Thought Leadership

    WHO REALLY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INNOVATION? Sam Rockwell, PhD tackled this question in his latest Forbes article by considering my approach on inclusive innovation as well as O’Reilly and Tushman’s concept of ambidextrous organizations. In my view, the key to innovative high performing firms is that everyone is in R&D: Those doing the work have the most current insights about where things are broken and what needs fixing. With the right supportive structures, we can turn that in-the-trenches experience into innovative insights. According to O'Reilly and Tushman, innovation should be separated from operations. 👇Weigh in below: Ambidextrous organizations? Inclusive organizations? Or something else?     Do you find it hard to make the right decisions when it comes to new ideas and opportunities ❓You are not alone. Evaluating and prioritising new ideas and opportunities is not an easy task. It sounds simple enough: rate, rank and select, but the reality is not so simple. Insufficient information, high uncertainty, biases, company history and politics are all factors that influence decision making. Add to that a lack of resources and uncertain management backing, which is often the reality of innovation projects. Decision-making is complex, but there are some things you can do to make it easier:  👀 Involve the right people in the evaluation process: go abroad those with the right knowledge, and include those with the mandate and power to push ideas forward 🔎 Build a simple and transparent process for evaluation: avoid complex rating systems and focus on a few simple criteria that are communicated upfront 📊 Provide flexible overviews: once evaluations are in, share the results in a manner that gives overview, but also allows for ranking on different criteria  🕰 Get people together to make the final decision: make sure everyone has a chance to get heard, and select ideas based on both consensus and strong individual convictions. Make sure to also discuss actions for deselected ideas 📣 Communicate the results: let people know what the decision is and what the immediate actions are 🏃♂️Get moving, fast: nothing is more detrimental to innovation than a decision that leads to nothing. Live up to your promise and show immediate action! A platform cannot solve this for you, but it can support you some of the way. Eine VR-Brille, wie noch in der ersten Phase der Entwicklung angedacht, braucht man heute nicht mehr. Die Software kann einfach per App auf dem Smartphone oder Tablet genutzt werden.     Does your continuous improvement process (also) need a fresh start to the year? Continuous improvement has great potential that is often not being exploited to its fullest. It is often regarded as tedious, and as a result ends up being down-prioritised. Although a process might exist, it is not truly considered a source of value.
