How can the food industry produce more by using less? We’re building our approach with a focus on Climate, Health, and People. We're cutting emissions by sourcing climate-friendly materials and optimizing our production processes. We design our products for healthier lifestyles, with more fiber and whole grains, and less salt and calories. We focus on building safe, inclusive workplaces that mirror the diverse world we live in. “If we can produce more by using less, we are on the right path.” - Anna-Karin Wahlgren, Global Sustainability Director. #BakingForABetterWorld Discover how these pillars are interlinked to drive real change in the food industry https://bit.ly/3Rzv0HN

Reflect on how interconnected the #foodindustry is. Farmers grow our food, it’s processed, transported, distributed to retailers, and in the end, enjoyed by us. With so many stakeholders involved, collaboration is essential throughout the value chain to achieve maximum sustainability. At Lantmännen Unibake, more than 80% of our emissions stem from our suppliers. We have committed to reducing emissions across our value chain and we have set targets for engaging our suppliers to also commit. Currently, we’re getting close to the halfway mark of that target. This is good but it is far from enough. Erik Mansner, Global Sustainability Manager focusing on our global CO2e reductions, emphasizes the importance of collective action. "We're taking these actions for the climate and because it makes good business sense. Suppliers who embrace ambitious climate goals will be more competitive in the future." Systematic change and deepened collaborations with our partners are key to drive meaningful impact and pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable food industry. #BakingForABetterWorld Read more --> https://bit.ly/45uBFZw

Since 2016, Lantmännen Unibake’s Romanian operations have worked to establish a strong position in Romania’s bread market, placing a strong emphasis on building sustainable operations by launching energy and climate projects at the existing facility. Today, they're actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions through multiple on-site initiatives. Three major ones are heat recovery, solar panels, and green electricity facilitating that the bakery in Bucharest runs on 100% green energy. Unibake Romania aims to continue driving sustainability efforts, transitioning to electric ovens as soon as possible and expanding their solar panel installations. Read more -> https://bit.ly/3VyDIHx

It's a win-win situation when a journey towards more sustainable operations not only benefits the environment but also makes sense from a cost perspective. Currently, 15 out of 64 trucks at Schulstad, a company within Lantmännen Unibake, are fully electric, saving over 1,100 tons of CO2 emissions annually compared to diesel trucks. Niels Kristian Holm, Supply Chain Manager at Schulstad, highlights the dual advantages: “This transition not only enhances environmental sustainability but also proves financially prudent, with expected fuel cost savings of 3 million DKK in 2024 and an additional 2 million DKK from toll charges in 2025.” Implementing night deliveries has boosted efficiency and safety in Schulstad, ensuring fresh bread arrives at Danish supermarkets early without city disturbances. "The future is green. As integral parts of the food system, we bear a responsibility to support sustainable practices," concludes Holm. Read more --> https://bit.ly/4ewXbRI
