Nu kan du komme til gratis videnskabsworkshop i uge 31 i Københaven: Mandag den 29. juli til fredag den 2. august kan du komme til eventet 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐄𝐗𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐒 på Huset i Rådhusstræde 13. Det er en lille videnskabsfestival med workshops for børn og vokse, rollespil, brætspil, improviseret-comedy og talks. Og alt er gratis! Men kræver dog tilmelding, for der er begrænsede pladser. Today, we shine our ⚡Sunday Spotlight⚡ onto Kira Orange Jones, CEO of Teach Plus, an organization that helps empower teachers to create an equitable education system. Jones grew up in Louisiana, and started her career there as an 👩🏫 elementary school teacher. In 2007, Jones joined Teach For America (TFA) – a nonprofit organization that has an ⚖ equity-based approach to education, seeking to expand opportunity for all children by ensuring that they have the resources necessary to succeed. Jones joined TFA in New Orleans, where the school system was still recovering from 🌀 Hurricane Katrina just two years prior. Jones spent much of her time talking to teachers who were in their first few weeks of teaching when the hurricane hit- and asking how they had managed. After the hurricane, one of the places where people were relocated was the Houston Astrodome, a multipurpose stadium 🏈 in Texas which was being used as a mass shelter for people who could not return home to Louisiana. Many of the teachers from TFA ended up at the Astrodome, as did many of their students. After requests from students about what to do about school 📚, these teachers-along with the kids, their families, and the community around them- made a makeshift school at the Astrodome. Jones learned from this approach, and during her time as executive director at TFA she recruited educators from across the U.S. and developed ways for community members, reformers, and teachers to collaborate and learn from each other. For more than 3 years Itzel Nayeli Balderas Sánchez has been an active role model in High5Girls. She did her BSc in Renewable Energy in Mexico at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, then her MSc in SustainableEnergy at DTU - Technical University of Denmark - she is now Senior Business Analyst at Ørsted. From the very beginning Itzel has been active. She has been part of several camps for girls - the last one in Engie in Netherlands. Always happy to help, to network with other role models and take part in our networking events. Super happy to have you as a role model Itzel. Thank you.

Meet our rolemodel Mahla Seyedi. Materials Engineer and Corrosion Scientist specialized in doing research and technical projects in materials science, specifically skilled in corrosion and protection of engineering materials. Her research profile is of an experimentalist, familiar with surface engineering methods, various combined methods for materials characterization as well as methods for the evaluation of their corrosion and electrochemical properties. We are proud and happy to have Mahla as an active rolemodel inspiring girls to follow a STEM career path or at least open their eyes to the opportunity and the potential choosing this career route. Today we are shining our⚡Sunday Spotlight⚡on Maria Montessori, who revolutionised educating children by encouraging their intrinsic curiosity to learn 👩🏫 As a passionate natural sciences student, Montessori broke gender barriers by becoming the first female doctor in Italy in 1896👩⚕️Her work in a Roman psychiatric clinic for disabled children led her to develop innovative educational methods focused on children's natural curiosity and concentration. Montessori's groundbreaking approach, known as the Montessori Method, emphasizes self-directed learning through hands-on activities. This method has transformed education by empowering children to explore and learn at their own pace, fostering independence and critical thinking. After her approach led to huge successes in the teaching of disabled children, she started including non-disabled children as well. Moreover, Montessori fiercely advocated for women's rights, consistently challenging societal norms.
