Every industry has its benchmark standards to ensure safety, reliability and long-term success 🔎📋 For asset owners in the offshore oil and gas industry and the offshore wind industry, NORSOK M-501 plays a crucial role. The NORSOK M-501 standard sets out how to best protect structures and assets from corrosion in some of the harshest offshore environments 🌬🌦🌊 🛡 We asked three Hempel A/S experts to talk us through how the latest updates to NORSOK M-501 will impact customers and partners. 💡 Lars Thorslund Pedersen, Lead Subject Matter Expert, clarifies what NORSOK M-501 is and the focus of the updates; 💡 Raquel Morales, Specification Manager Energy Solutions, explains what the updates to NORSOK M-501 mean for customers and partners; and 💡 Lenka Provaznikova, Manager, Marketing Communications Energy, shares how Hempel is helping asset owners to navigate these changes. Check out what our experts have to say in this presentation, and how we’re guiding customers and partners through the changes 🤝🏼 #Coatings #NORSOK #OffshoreWind #OilAndGas #TrustedPartner

To celebrate Hempel A/S’s 109th anniversary this week, we’re shining the spotlight on some fascinating objects in our archives ⌛📖 The office desk of our founder, J.C. Hempel, has pride of place at our headquarters in Denmark. But what’s this we see on his desk today? 👀 There’s a triangular-shaped vintage tin of yacht varnish. But why is it in this distinctive shape? 🔎 To help solve the mystery, we spoke to Hempel’s Thomas Olsen, Marketing Director, Yacht. “It could be for a couple of reasons,” says Thomas. “The most likely is for efficiency purposes. These triangular tins stack neatly in boxes, minimising wasted space compared to round tins.” “The other explanation could be a marketing angle,” continues Thomas. “Because it’s an eye-catching design and, on one of the tins, it even says ‘Ask for the varnish in the triangular tin’.” Hempel’s range of yacht coatings has evolved over the decades to include durable topcoats to the advanced fouling-release system, Silic One, that is free from copper and biocides. “Hempel’s assortment of yacht coatings has gone from strength to strength, and this is thanks to our talented colleagues in R&D,” adds Thomas. “It means our customers have a wide choice of products and can experience increased sailing speeds while reducing emissions and fuel consumption.” #Anniversary #Coatings #NowAndThen #PackagingDesign #Vintage #Yacht

To celebrate Hempel A/S’s 109th anniversary this week, we’re delving into the archives to uncover moments in our history - and to help us tell stories from the present 💙 The office desk of our founder, J.C. Hempel, has pride of place at our headquarters in Denmark. But what do we see on his desk today? 👀 It’s a photo album of J.C. Hempel’s travels around the world 🌍 One of the photos shows him cutting the ribbon during the inauguration of our factory in Barcelona. The handwritten text is in Danish and reads: “From the opening of the Barcelona factory April 1964”. Sixty years on, the campus (as it’s now known) in Barcelona comprises two sites - Polinyà and Santa Perpétua. The campus houses a factory, office buildings and an R&D centre, which includes the Passive Fire Protection Centre of Excellence ✨ Today, we talk to Hempel colleague Marta de Araoz Iñiesta, Spain Facilities Manager, where she tells us a bit about herself and what it’s like to work at the campus. “I’ve been working at Hempel for 11 years, collaborating with brilliant colleagues in various roles, including R&D. Today, I oversee all building-related activities, ensuring that the infrastructure and services are maintained. “One of my main objectives is to ensure that the buildings are problem-free so that our 260 colleagues can work under the best conditions. This includes inspecting buildings, determining site requirements, and optimising the use of space and equipment in the most efficient way. “A good day at work for me is when I see projects moving forward and that colleagues have the right resources so they can perform at their best. “Creating a collaborative spirit among colleagues is crucial, and a safe working environment plays a vital role in this. When we feel secure expressing ourselves and work together towards common goals, inspiration naturally flows.” #Anniversary #FacilitiesManagement #Factory #HempelAtHeart #NowAndThen 📷 Thanks to Pernille Fritz Vilhelmsen for contributing photos to this post.

The office desk of our founder, J.C. Hempel, has pride of place at our headquarters in Denmark. But what’s this we see on the desk today? 👀 It’s a mechanical calculator from the 1940s 🧮 The note on the machine explains that Hempel A/S’s accounting colleagues used it up until 1970! Fast-forward 54 years, and Hempel colleagues Philip Friis Nielsen, Senior Manager Consolidation Systems, and Sylvia Chioni Wørmer, Senior Financial Controller, Accounting, Controlling & Tax, tell us a bit about themselves and what it’s like to be part of Group Finance at Hempel today. We process millions of transactions in an instant thanks to advanced finance systems, data and streamlined processes. This ensures top-tier financial compliance and performance, and propels us into a future where efficiency and innovation will drive our continued success. S: The best part is the dynamic nature of my role. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to improve our financial processes, and the added bonus is that I get to work alongside a talented and diverse team. H: What makes ‘a good day at work’ for you? P: I’m involved in various projects where I get to collaborate with colleagues in different business units across the globe. Working in a dynamic atmosphere like this reinforces the sense of purpose in our work. Knowing that we’re making a meaningful difference together is incredibly motivating. S: A good day is when I see the tangible results of our efforts - whether it’s a successful financial report or solving a tough problem. Collaborating with my team and contributing to Hempel’s success makes it all worthwhile. H: Thank you, Philip and Sylvia! To celebrate Hempel’s 109th anniversary this week, we’re delving into the archives to uncover moments in our history - and to help us tell stories from the present 💙 Follow along this week for another journey back in time! 🔎 #Accounting #Anniversary #Finance #HempelAtHeart #NowAndThen

🌍 The EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) sets new standards for 50,000 companies on sustainability and social responsibility. It requires more transparency than any other sustainability reporting standard and is transforming the way companies report on environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics 🔎 The directive was a key theme at this week's Nordic Business Network for Human Rights (NBNHR) meeting. Hempel A/S’s Vasileia Stavrakaki, Head of ESG Reporting, delivered a keynote on how we’re preparing to meet the requirements, with the first step being a double materiality assessment. This will define the important ESG issues for Hempel that must be described and reported for the 2025 financial year. We caught up with Vasileia to get her highlights from the meeting. “It was wonderful to exchange knowledge with peers from other NBNHR member companies and to see that we’re not alone in this journey,” says Vasileia. “The CSRD requires sustainability information to be audited as thoroughly as financial data, which means that ESG will now be a more detailed part of Hempel’s annual report process. However, the CSRD should be considered more of a tool for transparency and not just a way to measure corporate sustainability performance.” “The team at Hempel is doing a first-class job in helping us to prepare for future reporting,” continues Vasileia. “It’s been a great opportunity to involve colleagues from across the organisation to identify the topics that are important for Hempel to report and have a voice on.” Hempel is a member of the NBNHR - a network of companies that work with human rights impacts in their organisations or supply chains. Members include: Arla, Bestseller, BioMar, Coop Danmark, Danfoss, Fazer Group, Grundfos, Inter IKEA Group, LEGO Group, Neste, Norsk Hydro, Novo Nordisk, Pandora, Statkraft, Tetra Pak, Vestas, Volvo Group, Yara International and Ørsted. #CSRD #DoubleMateriality #ESG #Sustainability Danish Institute for Human Rights

🚢 The performance of Hempel A/S’s cutting-edge silicone-based hull coating solution, Hempaguard X7, and its ability to accelerate decarbonisation efforts in the maritime industry are now third-party validated by DNV 🎉 Achieving more than 4,000 applications worldwide since its launch in 2013, Hempaguard helps vessels cut through water more easily, improving speed and saving on fuel and emissions 🌏 The introduction of even more ambitious decarbonisation targets, set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2023, helps drive demand for Hempaguard, as many stakeholders in the industry search for the best solutions to help reduce their fuel consumption and carbon footprint. “At Hempel, we’ve long known that Hempaguard stands out in the industry for its superior performance and environmental benefits, helping our customers save costs and improve their bottom line,” says Hempel’s Alexander Enström, Executive Vice President and Head of Marine. “But DNV’s third-party validation and verification is an important milestone for us to reach and only reinforces the credibility of Hempaguard’s unmatched performance in the market.” Read more by clicking the link below 👇🏼 #DecarbonisingShipping #EnergyEfficiency #MarineCoatings #Sustainability Hempel Marine

Rain is bad news for wind turbine blades - especially the leading edge. It causes erosion, reduced aerodynamic properties and (worse!) less energy generation 🌧⚡ Hempel A/S’s product innovation for wind energy customers involves testing protective blade coatings using our in-house Rain Erosion Test (RET) facility - the most advanced equipment to carry out such tests 🚀 This process was essential in the development of our leading-edge protection (LEP) coating solution for wind turbine blades, Hempablade Edge 171.
