WE PUBLISHED OUR 2023 RESPONSIBILITY REPORT! We’ve published our fifth annual Responsibility Report detailing the our ongoing commitment to sustainability as part of the second wave of our sustainability strategy, introduced last year - the 'GAMEPLAN 2.0'. This strategy centres on four main pillars: social impact, climate action & biodiversity, materials & innovation, and circularity & supply chain traceability. A guiding north star commitment for the GANNI is our vision of a 50% absolute carbon reduction by 2027 from a 2021 baseline, through its '7 by 2027' carbon strategy. Since 2021 GANNI has collaborated with Plan A, Europe’s leading carbon management platform as a third party to help provide data and audit the brand’s carbon reporting. As part of the 2023 report GANNI reported a 7% absolute reduction in carbon emissions from the 2021 baseline, marking significant progress in its environmental impact, considering the brand’s average annual financial growth rate of 18% since 2021. Adding to the achievement, this decrease is a 20% reduction from the brand’s 2022 carbon footprint, and marks an important tipping point for the brand, as it has successfully decoupled the size of its carbon footprint from business growth. “Despite the challenges 2023 has thrown our way, my optimism remains. We have a long road ahead, especially in the realm of circularity, but our commitment to pushing forward and making strides in our responsibility strategy is stronger than ever. This journey hasn't been easy. Frankly, it’s been a major relief to see our carbon progress because I’ve been championing this agenda at GANNI personally for years and urging others to invest in this space. Being deeply involved, I know firsthand how tough it is—the investment it requires, the unknowns we need to navigate, and the constant fear of not meeting expectations. It’s like building the plane while flying it; there are no guarantees. Yet, the grit and conviction we hold bring us to moments like this, where I feel energised by the achievement of our 7% absolute carbon reduction compared to a 2021 baseline. It’s a testament not just to our efforts but to what's possible for the wider industry. We need to continue on this path, proving that sustainable change is achievable,” - Nicolaj Reffstrup, GANNI Founder. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dwMmKA93

Last week, we saw a promising partner, Renewcell, file for bankruptcy. Renewcell is one of GANNI's Fabrics of the Future material innovators, known for creating Circulose, a material made from 100% recycled textiles — such as worn-out cotton jeans and cotton production scraps. Circulose is a 100% recycled next-gen material we use across various denim products. We share the sentiment with the industry on how sad this news is for fashion innovators and wish the team behind Renewcell the very best. As we reflect on what happened, we are also considering where we go from here, because we need to keep our focus on progress. "In the short term, we will be less affected by the bankruptcy; we still intend to launch all planned Renewcell products this year, as we have secured the materials. Although it is saddening, there's nothing unusual about startups falling short. It happens all the time in a venture-backed ecosystem, especially when the ambition is to transform a long-established, linear, commoditized, and low-margin supply chain. I'm somewhat optimistic that Renewcell will be taken over and operations will continue, ensuring that we, as an industry, will accumulate experience through failure and come out stronger on the other side. Now is the time to continue doubling down on making innovation happen.” - Nicolaj Reffstrup Founder, GANNI Read more about "Renewcell's post-bankruptcy future" on VOGUE Business: https://lnkd.in/dccQKKjN
