The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the FAO (FAO) of the United Nations have recently released their #AgricultureOutlook (2024-2033) with some amazing findings and numbers. We have tried to jot down a few takeaways for Europe w.r.t the global numbers, as listed below:   🔹 Meat Production 🥩 - Global: Projected to rise by 12% or 41 Mt cwe (metric tons of carbon-weighted equivalents), reaching an estimated 388 Mt cwe by 2033. - Europe: Expected to face lower meat production due to stricter environmental legislation, high inflation, animal diseases, and a declining herd population.   🔹 Poultry Consumption 🍗 - Global: Projected to reach 160 Mt rtc (metric tons of radiative forcing-weighted equivalents) by 2033. - Europe: Although consumption will grow, there may be a shift towards poultry meat, replacing beef, pig meat, and sheep meat.   🔹Sheep Production 🍖 - Global: Anticipated to reach 19 Mt cwe by 2033. - Europe: Production is projected to increase marginally from current levels.   🔹 GHG Emissions from Livestock 🏭 - Global: Projected to rise by 6% by 2033. - Europe: Emissions from meat production are expected to decline by 6%. There is a shift in meat consumption patterns in Europe. People are gradually inclining towards poultry rather than pig meat consumption. Do you know why? 📢 A new initiative within our Tuscany Living Lab!   University of Gastronomic Sciences - Pollenzo in synergy with Piana di Lucca District Zone of the Azienda USL Toscana nord ovest has launched a challenge to USG students to ideate and realize healthy and sustainable video recipes in line with the Mediterranean Diet!   The winning videos will be both used to promote the #FoodEducationCall initiative and included within the Tuscany Living Lab activities aimed at middle and high schools in the Piana di Lucca and Valle del Serchio to provide students with simple and practical examples of improving their eating habits.   In line with the needs and requests that emerged from the students, the topics of the video recipes will focus on: ☑ How to encourage fruit consumption at breakfast and during snack time, ☑ How to facilitate vegetable consumption while preparing tasty dishes out of them, and ☑ How to create a healthy and balanced single-course ready-to-eat outside!   We can't wait to see the creativity and culinary skills of our students in action, and we look forward to sharing these innovative recipes with our community!   If you have delicious ideas that you feel are worth sharing with the world, scan the QR code today to know more!   #feast2030 #MediterraneanDiet #HealthyEating #SustainableCooking
