We won an award! – or “nous avons gagné un prix”👏 🎉    Last night, the French branch of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) awarded us their 1st Gender Diversity Awards for Women & Men in the Maritime and Port Sector in recognition of our DE&I efforts.   This award once again reflects our continued efforts to improve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on all levels of our organisation, both on land and at sea - and we couldn’t be prouder. 💪    The award was given to us due to our increased women representation in management positions throughout our organisation and the impact of our Waves of Talent programme – a female cadet programme set to increase the representation of women in our fleet and the maritime industry. ⚓🙋♀️ “It’s crucially important that we get more women into our industry, and we are trying to create an environment where women feel welcome and valued. Our female cadet programme is a great, tangible example that you can move the needle when you want to - even when the challenge is to change a 100-year-old, predominately male industry,” says Gemma Griffin VP of crewing at DFDS.   

Today on World Maritime Day, we celebrate the great men and women who navigate our 74 ferries across 30 routes in and around Europe ⛴️🌍 Many of our seafarers have a big passion for the maritime life – and captain Matthieu Delarue is no exception. We are quite excited to introduce you to our extraordinary colleague Bill Duden who is 88 years old 🌟   He works as Service Operator at Newcastle Port, where he has been a dedicated member of our team for the past 17,5 years! When asked why he’s stayed in the same job for so long, he simply said, “Why leave when I have the best job in the world?”.   Bill’s excitement for his job shines through in his interactions with both the crew and passengers ⛴️🚶🏼♀️ “I have always been a people person, and here, I have always felt that everyone accepts me for who I am. Why would I ever work anywhere else?” he shares.     Bill works roughly 20 hours a week, splitting his time between morning and afternoon shifts. In the mornings, he warmly greets passengers disembarking the ferry, ensuring a smooth passage through immigration and helping with any queries that passengers may have 💬   In the afternoons, he is responsible for vehicle boarding, scanning boarding cards, and checking passports 🛂   “Bill is an incredible guy, always in a happy, jolly mood, and goes about his day with a smile. He will do anything for anyone, and he is a real role model for the younger generation within DFDS, including myself,” says Chris Whitfield, Port Operations Manager.   Well done, Bill 👏 #DFDS #WeMoveForAllToGrow #EmployeeSpotlight

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming close to 100 women at our headquarters for an inspiring event with the Women In Shipping (WIS) network ⚓ They were here to discuss the “future leader” and our very own Anne-Christine Ahrenkiel, Catja Hjorth and Camilla Kreiner-Scheffmann were invited to speak on the topic. Safer and faster Power-to-X (PtX) in Denmark⚡   Transitioning to a fossil-free future is one of the biggest challenges we face. A key pathway to reach net-zero is the availability of alternative fuels 🍀   This week, we were happy to host The Danish Institute of Fire and Security (DBI) and their partners at our HQ for the launch of a new guideline for safer and faster Power-to-X (PtX) in Denmark.   The main goal of these guidelines is to ensure safety and offer support for a faster implementation of PtX across Denmark.
