Brewing for a better today and tomorrow

Om os

This is the official LinkedIn channel of the Carlsberg Group. The Carlsberg Group was established in 1847 by brewer J.C. Jacobsen. J.C. Jacobsen was a true renaissance man. A believer in quality, research and serving the community, he shared his knowledge with fellow brewers. He looked to the future, prizing long-term growth over short-term gain. Today, Carlsberg Group is one of the leading brewery groups in the world, with a large portfolio of beer and other beverage brands. Our beer portfolio spans core beer brands, including local power brands and international premium brands, craft & speciality brands and alcohol-free brews. Our brands are enjoyed in more than 150 markets across Western Europe, Asia and Central & Eastern Europe, and we hold a number 1 or 2 position in more than 20 markets. We strive to brew better beers, today and tomorrow. Doing business responsibly and sustainably supports that purpose – and drives the efforts to deliver value for both our shareholders and the society. We talk a lot about expanding further into growth markets. But what about the markets where we already have a large market share?   We call them strongholds.   Markets such as the Nordics, Switzerland and France. As outlined in our company strategy Accelerate SAIL, we will maintain our focus on driving profitable growth in stronghold markets   Anders Røed has had executive roles in two of them.    Since joining Carlsberg in 2010, he has taken up the role of Managing Director at Ringnes AS, our Norwegian business, and most recently, Managing Director at Brasserie Kronenbourg in France.   In other words, he has helped reshape the organisation strategy, focusing on fewer, bigger, and better initiatives, in crucial markets for us.   As a new major step, Anders has recently been appointed Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer and officially stepped into our Executive Committee this September! In this role, he will lead the Group strategy work, be overall responsible for M&A, and be an owner and key driver of the Group's value management agenda and our digital go-to-market readiness.    We look forward to leverage the 14 years of leadership in Carlsberg and Anders' strong industry experience to new heights. Welcome to the ExCom, Anders 🤝

Nestled in the heart of Finnish countryside, a family-owned farm embraces regenerative agriculture. Here, the soil is disturbed as little as possible. The farm uses bioenergy from its own forest to dry the grain. There are flower strips along the edges of the fields, lacy phacelia flowers attract pollinators, and the soil is covered with crops throughout the year. All to replenish the land and preserve its vitality for future generations. It's called the Myyrinmaa farm, proudly managed by Jussi Myyrinmaa. "In recent years, we have started to use cover crops with the aim to add more root mass and thus create better conditions for organisms in the soil. Using regenerative farming methods have improved the soil, for example, the number of earthworms has increased considerably. Everyone, including farmers, is responsible for climate action,” the farmer Jussi Myyrinmaa says. Why sharing this story? Because the farm also produces malting barley for our Finnish business Sinebrychoff, specifically their much-anticipated Christmas Brew, KOFF Christmas Beer. This is something we're really proud of. Regenerative farming and reducing emissions from agriculture play a significant role in our sustainability programme Together Towards ZERO and Beyond. Great transformations, like great beers, start with the right ingredients.   In order to achieve our growth ambitions, we need to be digital and go digital. Investing in the right talent, retaining our best talent, and having shared outcomes with our business to be their partner and enabler. Positioning technology as a strategic enabler and driver of value for everyone across Carlsberg is essential for our Accelerate SAIL strategy. From equipping our teams with the right skills to be digital, to strengthening our digital capabilities in the way we work across business functions.   The woman to lead all of this is Esther Wu, who recently joined the Executive Committee of Carlsberg Group as CIO.   However, she is not new to hoppy world of beer.   Esther has been with Carlsberg since 2019, where she has led the modernization of Asia’s technology landscape as VP, IIT Asia – including the establishment of core capabilities in Asia and orchestrating an impressive execution of our Smart Core ERP journey that started in China and continuing onto Malaysia and Singapore as part of the digital core build.    Esther and her team have also pioneered launching Gen AI within the Asia business. With the support of the commercial team and inputs from over 800 sales reps in Vietnam, a Gen AI powered solution is being delivered as digital sales coach for our field salesforce in the market. This pilot initiative opens opportunity for scaling Gen AI across the regions to accelerate value for Carlsberg.   Through her leadership, Esther has established an IT roadmap in Asia that is business-focused, enabling a more integrated commercial and digital landscape for the region.   We are excited to see where Esther's leadership will take us on our journey towards Digital Excellence 🚀   Welcome to the ExCom, Esther Wu!

Sustainable beer brewing: Breakthroughs in regenerative rice farming in Laos 🌱🍺 At our Laos company, Lao Brewery Company, we are expanding our sustainable rice farming initiative along the Mekong River.   The project explores techniques to lower the environmental impacts of rice farming while increasing yields and maintaining quality.    Techniques include increasing the use of fermented fertilizer and reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and expanding the practice of alternative wetting and drying – allowing rice paddies to dry before being reirrigated rather than leaving continual standing water, which causes methane emissions.   Rice is commonly used in brewing, often as a complement – or adjunct – to barley malt in light, crisp lagers.    This year, the project, undertaken in partnership with the Laotian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute, will expand from 100 to 340 hectares of rice fields, with the number of participating farmers increasing from 35 to 200.   As a result, more than 86,000 hectoliters of beer will be brewed using rice grown through regenerative methods!   "We're learning so much from this project, as we investigate our latest batch of rice. Our aim is to expand even further, and eventually adopt regenerative agriculture for all the raw materials we use in brewing," says Sithixay Ketthavong, CA, CSR & Sustainability Director at Beer Lao, our Laos business.   Learn more about our targets #TowardsZERO Farming Footprint: https://lnkd.in/euu-tv4K #RegenerativeFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture

If just 20% more farmers adopted sustainable agricultural practices, by 2030 the EU could reduce its agricultural greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 6%. This statistic can be found in a 2022 report from World Economic Forum. However, while there’s a fairly clear consensus on the need to pursue regenerative agriculture, there are still too many roadblocks standing in the way of progress. Our VP of ESG, Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, chimes in on the debate in the below blog post - and also shares why all of this has something significant to do with a little beverage we all know and love - beer 👇 #RegenerativeAgriculture #Regenerative #Farming #ClimateWeek

As a 177 year old company that operates in over 125 markets around the world, we have a lot of assets. Breweries. Properties. Technologies. And so much more. But what is the most valuable asset? It's our brands. So it's no wonder that our Accelerate SAIL strategy is so focused on unleashing the power of our brand portfolio – from investing in value-creating campaigns for our premium brands, to introducing new products, to seizing opportunities in categories like Beyond Beer. With one of the new members of our Executive Committee, we take an exciting step on our long term growth journey. This month, we welcomed Yves Briantais to the Carlsberg Group as our Chief Marketing Officer. Yves joins from Colgate-Palmolive, where he most recently served as Global Executive Vice President Design and Creative Capabilities. Yves’ vast brand building experience with a focus on innovation and digitalisation, coupled with his empathetic and inclusive leadership perfectly align with our growth culture principles and our ambition to drive value through world-class marketing. Welcome to Carlsberg, Yves! #AccelerateSAIL #GrowthCulture
