Process industries—like metals and mining, forestry products, paper, and packaging to name a few—too often default to workforce cuts or spending reductions to manage costs, but that’s a half-solution at best. Cory Kaplin, who leads BCG’s Operations practice in Canada, says that the real, sustainable gains come from improving productivity and changing behaviors. Read about the trends, misperceptions, and more of the cost topics facing the process industry: https://on.bcg.com/3WGLxvg

Efforts to eliminate carbon emissions and advance climate adaptation and resilience (A&R) are accelerating worldwide. Still, the lack of consensus on measuring and tracking A&R investments continues to hinder much-needed private-sector investment. BCG teamed up with USAID, proposes a new framework to track private investments in A&R. This framework consists of three core components: 1. Policy Metrics: Aligning national policies with A R goals. 2. Investment Lifecycle Metrics: Tracking investments from planning to implementation. 3. Impact Metrics: Measuring the actual impact on resilience and adaptation. Adopting this framework can ensure more targeted and effective climate investments. Learn more: https://on.bcg.com/3AoDLPe

What was the most impactful project of your career? For BCG’s Grace Davey FRSA, working with Cancer Research UK (CRUK) was meaningful for both personal and professional reasons: “Working with Cancer Research UK (CRUK) was my dream project. CRUK’s purpose is deeply important to me, especially as I have several friends and family members living with cancer. It was incredibly rewarding to work at the intersection of healthcare and social impact—areas I am passionate about—and on a topic as groundbreaking as generative AI disruption. This experience has been one of the highlights of my time at BCG. Our work in generative AI is truly at the cutting edge of technology. Without the benefit of a crystal ball to predict future disruptions and their impact on human behavior, we had to understand the technologies and their impact, strategize, and consider speculative futures. This approach helped us to map out and navigate the uncertainties and get prepared for the transformative changes that lie ahead, for whichever direction they might go.” Watch Grace’s full #ImpactIn60 now: https://lnkd.in/eMq4DDX9

Carbon credits are crucial for funding climate solutions, but quality and integrity challenges persist. BCG's Anders Porsborg-Smith discusses with Patch's Tighe Sullivan how sustainability leaders can navigate the carbon credit market for informed, impactful decisions. 1. Quality is Crucial: Not all carbon credits are equal; third-party ratings and thorough due diligence are essential. 2. Focus on Avoidance-Based Credits: While removals are important, avoidance-based credits often offer more value for investment and play a pivotal role in effective climate strategies. 3. Embrace Technological Innovation: Using technologies like LiDAR, AI, and machine learning in nature-based solutions boosts transparency and market confidence. Watch the video to learn how to strategically approach carbon credits for maximum environmental and financial impact.

BCG recommends a three-part strategy to fully unlock the potential of Gen AI. We call it Deploy, Reshape, Invent. Deployment can secure 10-15% improvement in productivity and prepares your organization for broader AI integration. 60% of companies are already starting to experiment with GenAI tools. Find out more from Julie Bedard in this video, the first of a three-part series: https://on.bcg.com/4cj7syv
