It’s a painful condition that significantly diminishes quality of life for those afflicted. The current standard for diagnosing and monitoring UC, the Mayo Endoscopic Subscore (MES) index, is prone to high variability between physicians – often resulting in misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment.   🎯 Now, with support from BETA. HEALTH, a team based at Hvidovre Hospital has developed an AI-enabled solution that could soon improve diagnostic reliability and efficacy of treatment for patients afflicted with UC. ‘HECTOR’ is an advanced AI-enabled system powered by machine learning to provide physicians with real-time decision-making support during endoscopic examinations, thereby improving diagnostic accuracy and guiding more effective treatment.     🚀 'We're truly grateful for BETA. HEALTH's support, which has enabled us to advance our system and bring our research into clinical practice’, says Bobby Lo, MD, PhD and HECTOR project leader.   📔 In this project report, the team provides a detailed overview of the process of designing, developing and evaluating the system’s machine-learning-based MES classification system. The report also describes the initial evaluation of the system, including a non-clinical model test and the first clinical trial – a crucial step towards a concrete solution benefiting patients.   𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 👉 https://lnkd.in/eCKk3cm2   𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Bobby Lo Christian Igel Bjørn Leth Møller Amager og Hvidovre Hospital Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen - DIKU University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) Copenhagen IBD Center Gastroenheden Hvidovre Hospital ☀️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 '𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 2024' 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐈𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 ☀️ Apply through September 1st for funding, mentorship and accelerator support to help bring your healthcare innovation project to patients. 👉 https://lnkd.in/enqypDMe

Infertility affects up to 20% of couples globally, leading many to pursue daunting treatments involving extensive testing, hormone stimulation and invasive procedures.  Patrick Butler, an MD at Aalborg Universitetshospital, has designed BloomBaby to provide a gentle first-line alternative to clinic-based fertility treatments – and to support solo mothers and people within the LGBTQ community on their unique conception journeys. Soon, for patients in Denmark, this waiting time will be reduced from weeks to about a day. The idea for Dermloop started with Niels Kvorning Ternov, a doctor at Herlev og Gentofte Hospital. Now it's a complete clinical feedback and training tool developed by Melatech. The Dermloop app enables GPs to take photos of suspicious moles and submit them for a quick initial evaluation by a dermatologist. An answer usually comes within a day. This provides patients with better peace of mind and quicker access to treatment while freeing up dermatologists to focus their expertise where it's needed most. 🔬Dermloop also comprises a comprehensive database and training tool that enables doctors with limited experience identifying melanoma to develop their their diagnostic skills. The app is already being used in the Capital and Southern Denmark Regions. Melatech expects the system to be fully implemented in Danish clinics nationwide within one-and-a-half to two years. From next month, clinics in the United States will start using the app. The goal is to help provide care to Americans who lack access to medical specialists like dermatologists. HEALTH grant recipients kicked off their six-month ‘accelerator programmes’, bringing them closer to solving some of Denmark's most pressing healthcare challenges.   Over two dynamic days filled with presentations, workshops and extensive networking, the project teams received mentorship from the BETA. HEALTH team, shared insights with one another and had the unique opportunity to consult with Mikkel Bülow Skovborg and Sarah Kulahin Roed from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. 🏥 Martin Magelund Rasmussen, member of the Executive Management Group at Rigshospitalet, set the tone with an inspiring pep talk. He emphasised that to secure the hospital as a client, it is crucial for the innovative solutions provided to save time and resources. And thus, the boot camp kicked off!   🎯 The BETA. HEALTH team challenged the project teams to articulate their value propositions and market potential – and develop targeted project plans with clear milestones for the next six months.   💡 BETA. HEALTH alumnus Eske Kvanner Aasvang, CMO of WARD 24/7, delivered an insightful experience-based talk. One notable takeaway was the significant time commitment and occasional personal sacrifices required to bring innovative solutions to patients. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of leveraging the vast ecosystem within healthcare innovation.   ‘It hasn't just been days filled with exciting presentations. There’s also been incredibly valuable networking – and importantly, dedicated time to delve deep into the project where we've sharpened our focus on the specific goals we're working towards as a team.’ – Winnie E. Svendsen, grant recipient for the project, 'Detection of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)'    Seeing so many ambitious healthcare innovators gathered in one place was a pleasure, and we’re excited to help these cutting-edge projects evolve over the next six months!   📢 Do you have a healthcare innovation project in need of funding and entrepreneurial guidance? The 'Summer 2024' call is open, welcoming applications until September 1st.   Find more information on our website 👉 https://lnkd.in/enqypDMe Rasmus Fält, Peter Brito Stegger, Kirsten Yael Ben-Shoshan, Henrik Gaunsbæk, Ditte Thøgersen, Rune Holdt, Rikke Lyngholm Hansen-Christensen, Nynne Møller Pedersen #BETAHEALTH #HealthcareInnovation
