Live Brush - A Custom Brush Manager for Aseprite
🎨 Revolutionize Your Workflow with Live Brush! 🎨 Tired of being limited to a single custom brush in Aseprite? Live Brush is here to take your pixel art experience to the next level!
What is Live Brush?
Live Brush is an Aseprite extension that supercharges your custom brush workflow by allowing you to:
- Save multiple custom brushes into organized brush sets.
- Easily switch between brushes with a single click.
- Adjust brush properties on the fly, including size, rotation, and flipping.
- Add variety with randomized transformations for creative freedom!
Key Features
✨ Brush Set Management
- Save multiple brushes: No more creating a new custom brush every time you switch!
- Easy access: Quickly switch brushes from your brush set with a hotkey.
✨ Flexible Brush Creation
Create brush sets in three intuitive ways:
- Grid Tiles: Select an area and divide it into grid-sized brushes, perfect for tilesets.
- Separate Selections: Create brushes from multiple distinct selections on your canvas.
- Selected Cels: Select a range of cels in the timeline to define brushes based on your animation frames.
✨ Rotated Set Creation
Easily create rotated sets for your artwork:
- Grid Tiles: Divide a selected area into grid-based rotated sets, ideal for tilesets.
- Separate Selections: Generate rotated sets from multiple distinct selections on your canvas.
- Selected Cels: Rotate images across a range of cels in the timeline, perfect for animation frames.
Use these rotated sets as pre-configured brush sets for seamless workflows!
✨ Transformations
- Manual adjustments: Modify size, rotation, and flipping.
- Randomization: Add randomness to transformations for dynamic and unique results.
✨ Brush Transition Options
Keep your workflow dynamic with multiple transition modes:
- Static: No transition, fixed on the first brush.
- Forward: Loop through brushes sequentially.
- Reverse: Loop through brushes in reverse order.
- Ping-Pong: Cycle forward and backward.
- Random: Randomly picked brush from the set.

super stoked! got both draw and brush. The integrated and solid UI is appreciated and looks great.
I can't seem to get the brush to automatically change to other brushes in the set unless I manually press the next button on the static setting. So I know they registered just fine, just always stays on the first of the set.
oh, and either one or the other extension will appear in the menu, not both at once, whichever i added last, even though they both work and seem to be installed.
Hi TLiaD, thank you for the support and feedback
For transitioning of the brushes from the set, you can choose the 'forward' instead of 'static' in the dropdown so that it will automatically iterate to the set of brushes going forward. The static is for you to manually switch the brushes, you may also use a hotkey 'space q' or 'space w' for previous and next button.
Regarding the extension not appearing both in the menu, ill have to check on that why it wont appear. But for now, please make use of the hotkey(Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts) to open both.
Space L for Live Brush
Ctrl L for Live Draw
Please let me know if that helps.
Thanks for the cheat sheet! Everything is working perfect with the updated version too (1.4). (In case it helps to know, but none of the transitions were working for me in the last build (1.3), forward, backward, etc., it just stayed on the first brush unless I used the buttons with the static option. I didn't try the hotkeys however, so I'm not sure about that. )
-Would it be possible to add the option to weight brushes in transitions? Like random brush transitions could be set for two brushes to appear at a 2 to 1 ratio or 3 brushes that appear at a 10%/40%/50% ratio?
-Is there a way that this could work with the spray brush? I know that it's been tried but the only solution has been by using an auto clicker app and standard brush.
These extensions are awesome! You and devs like Carbs Code make Aseprite the GoaT that it is! Thanks!
Hey TLiad, thank you so much for your feedback and kind words—it means a lot! I'm glad that everything is working perfectly with version 1.4. 😊
Regarding version 1.3, I appreciate the heads-up about the transitions not working as expected. It's great to know that the static option worked, but I'll make a note to double-check those features in case they need further tweaking.
Now to your suggestions:
Thanks again for your thoughtful suggestions and support. It’s feedback like yours that keeps me motivated to improve these tools! And shoutout to Carbs Code for all their incredible contributions as well😊
Got into the same problem. And I figured out that restart Aseprite will fix it
Just bought Live Draw-- what a brilliant product! Look forward to trying it out as soon as possible! (Downloaded LiveBrush too..)
