Hiromi Suda at Tsubame BHB, a cutting-edge GreenTech company striving to lead our industry into a carbon free future as they have developed an innovative approach to produce Ammonia. 1. 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮'𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗽 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 This week, we had the first visit from our new scaleup batch: Welcome to Hamburg, Hiromi Suda from Tsubame BHB! Our Scaleup Hamburg team supported Tsubame in curating fitting events and meetings to make sure, Hiromi´s time here in Hamburg was worthwile. It started out with the interesting conference of the cluster Renewable Energy Hamburg on industrial projects for the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in Hamburg. It was exciting to see what progress has been made with projects like the #GreenHydrogen Hub Hamburg (HGHH) and the Hydrogen industry grid (HH-WIN). Thank you, Christoph Cosler and Michael Dammann for your presentations, and to Jan Rispens and Kirsten Schümer for organizing this insightful event! The next day, Hiromi met with Renewable Energy Hamburg as well as hySOLUTIONS GmbH to present Tsubame´s catalyst technology for ammonia synthesis and an on-site production technology that decentralises ammonia production and discussed how their solution might contribute to the Hamburg ecosystem. Before her departure tomorrow, Hiromi will also be present at the EEHH-Summer Event at StrandPauli tonight for an even deeper dive into the energy community here in Hamburg and with hopefully a spectacular view over the river Elbe! 🌿 Get to know the next of our 2024 cohort members: Polymertal from Israel. For this, we had the pleasure of interviewing Guy Varon at POLYMERTAL, a dynamic company at the forefront of developing innovative replacement materials for metals. 1. Introduce your company in two sentences. Polymertal is a sustainable alternative to metal. Our products are 50% lighter and 60% more sustainable than lightweight metals such as Aluminium. We design, develop and manufacture components for the automotive, aerospace and semiconductor industries. 2. What solution are you offering? Our solutions come in many shapes and sizes from EMI (electro-magnetic interferences) shielding cases to oil tanks, antennas and heat shields. Polymertal’s offering is relevant for many industries and provides a cost-effective and sustainable methods to replace traditional metal components. 3. What are you expecting from the Landing Pad? We hope to receive the needed business opportunities to expand our reach into Germany and Hamburg. 4. What are your plans in Hamburg / Germany? Our plans are to initially localize in Hamburg for sales and marketing purposes. Later, we will want to partner with a plastics manufacturer to set up a local manufacturing facility. This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ron Lee at BANF Smart Tire, a dynamic company at the forefront of developing innovative smart tire solutions. 1. Introduce your company in two sentences. BANF's real-time tire profile technology enhances trucking and mobility by providing comprehensive real-time tire data, including pressure, temperature, tire wear, wheel alignment, and lug nut status. This technology helps prevent accidents, improves fuel efficiency by 20%, and significantly boosts overall safety. 2. What solution are you offering? Tire issues are as significant as other accident causes. For over a decade, conventional TPMS companies have mainly offered basic tire pressure and temperature monitoring with limited advancements due to reliance on coin batteries, which have capacity limitations. Real-time advanced features like wheel alignment, lug nut status, and road conditions are hindered by the premature depletion of these batteries, often before tire replacement. Recognizing the need for wireless charging, our company developed a sensor with a 3-axis accelerometer and the Smart Profiler, a wireless charging module integrated with the vehicle. This innovation ensures continuous sensor power through wireless charging while the vehicle is in motion, using the vehicle's existing power supply. 3. What are you expecting from the Landing Pad? The Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg program is very well-known for its prestigious gateway for startups and scaleups entering Germany in South Korea. Through this program, we aim to secure numerous meetings to gather potential customer feedback and gain a comprehensive understanding of the German logistics and mobility ecosystem. 4. 🌟 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽-𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮! 🌟 Together with Jacek Bukowicki from the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development our Scaleup Landing Pad Hamburg colleagues Caroline Girard and Johannes Budkiewitz organized a dynamic workshop on Startup-Corporate collaboration at the #ViennaUP Startup festival on June 3. The workshop was part of the Salon Future event, a yearly gathering of public ecosystem builders from all over the world – allowing for deep discussions on the role these actors can play in facilitating collaboration between startups and corporates. With our active role in that field in Hamburg’s innovation ecosystem this was a vital format for us to challenge our perceptions and experiences with those from the more than 20 attendees. Some of the main outcomes that were generated from this wealth of knowledge and experience at the workshop tables were: 1. Quality beats quantity when it comes to successful matchings between startups and scaleups. Especially in venture clienting projects, this leads to funding rarely being an issue for pilot projects, because companies are willing to pay for a well-matched solution to their needs. 2. Focused events with limited numbers of participants play vital roles in matchmaking. Public ecosystem builders are well-suited to this, due to their neutral position between different business interests and solid networks into all parts of the local innovation scene. 3. The facilitator role of public institutions to manage expectations and to align different cultures and business speeds between corporates and startups can be a strong asset in making collaboration possible. Build programmes and offers that make your services visible and easy to access! We are quite happy with the results of the workshop discussions and look forward to further strengthening these relationships and fostering even more innovative partnerships.
