3D Pioneers Challenge The ninth edition of the international design competition at rapid.tech3D allowed visitors to explore the exhibition of the 43 finalists and experience the award ceremony live on 15 May. The top prize went to a team from Texas A&M University for their 3D Printed Electronic Skin project. The E-Skin imitates human skin and has applications in robotics, wearables and healthcare. Nanoengineered hydrogels enable highly flexible, stretchable electronic structures that can sense strain, pressure and temperature, representing a significant advance in flexible technology. 3DPC2024 Winner FashionTech: Balena is working with 3D fashion designers Variable Seams on 3D printed, compostable garments. The FlexTex3D technology uses BioCirc®️flex3D, a bio-based, compostable material that minimises waste and closes the loop. This project demonstrates innovative approaches to sustainable fashion and the circular economy. 3DPC2024 Winner MedTech: FIDENTIS, a spin-off from the Fraunhofer IGCV, has developed an additive multi-material process for telescopic prostheses. This saves 60% of production costs and makes high-quality dentures affordable. #RapidTechRecap We look back on the highlights of the 2nd day of the congress with further impressive keynotes, top-class specialist forums, innovative 3D printing applications and inspiring networking formats. 💡 Keynote highlights: ▪ Dr. Brent Stucker (Wohlers Associates, Powered by ASTM) & Prof. Christian Seidel (Hochschule München) opened the day. The pioneer of additive manufacturing shed light on the key challenges and enablers for the future of AM. ▪ In his presentation, Dr. Jan Brummund from Innosyn showed the promising future of chemical future of chemical process engineering and the potential of AM. Further highlights: 💡 Forum Chemistry & Process Engineering: For the first time in cooperation with DECHEMA, this forum offered varied contributions from BASF, Evonik (Dr. Senada Schaack) through to the Closing Breakout session on the role of additive manufacturing in CO2 neutrality in the process process industry. 💡 Defence Session: Another highlight was the Defence Session. Thomas R. Kerk (Rheinmetall) spoke about AM logistics solutions for spare parts production in the field depot, and Michel Honoré (FORCE Technology) explained how AM can make the defense supply defense supply chain more resilient. 💡 AM Science Forum: The latest research results were presented by BMW Group, the University of Bremen (Universität Bremen) and the University of Duisburg-Essen (Universität Duisburg-Essen). 💡 Forum Software, AI & Design: The impressive variety of topics ranged from algorithm-driven design for AM (trinckle) to the legal framework conditions for value creation through data and data and AI (Marco Müller-ter Jung, LL.M. Additive Working Group was represented at #RapidTech3D this year and organized a guided tour of the trade fair for our colleagues. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience the latest innovations and trends in additive manufacturing up close and gain valuable insights. A particular highlight was Dr. Carsten Krautz from Building 3D e.V., who offered very well-attended tours on all three days of the trade fair. His expertise provided participants with valuable insights into the world of 3D printing technologies.
