It has been announced that the German government has granted 4.6 billion euros to twenty-three green hydrogen projects. Simultaneously, bp has revealed the company’s individual plan to create a 100 MW green hydrogen installation, which is due to be based in Germany. Aslan Energy Capital has agreed, through a deal, to buy 35,000 hectares of land in Mexico. This has been done with the plan that by 2030, this land will host 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia production, on an annual basis. Through an agreement with Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd.(SHPT), it has been announced that Sydrogen Energy will be introducing new technology to the maritime industry. This technology will be a 250kW hydrogen fuel cell and it is scheduled to join the industry in 2025. ITOCHU Corporation is a Japanese industrial conglomerate and recently the company made an investment into ZeroAvia, who are a US-UK hydrogen aviator. Along with this investment, the two companies have also created a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see them work together over various projects including maintenance, airport infrastructure and finally, hydrogen infrastructure in Asia. These have not only been created, but are also at the point at which they are available to hire, along with the support of a fully managed service. The Korean National Fire Agency recently received a bus from Hyundai Motor Group. This bus is a hydrogen-powered fuel cell support bus and it is intended to become a vehicle for use in the line of duty. This fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) was designed by Hyundai and throughout the process it received input from Korean firefighters, as well as Jeju Island’s Fire Department. Gaining input during the manufacturing process from these sources was extremely beneficial, as this means the vehicle was specifically designed for the area it will be used in. ***HYDROGEN/CCUS TRADE DELEGATION TO GERMANY*** Germany was one of the European frontrunners in formulating policies to develop hydrogen for decarbonisation, publishing its first hydrogen plan in 2020, revised in 2023 to target 10GW of domestic electrolysis capacity by 2030, doubling its initial target of 5GW. The federal government has allocated €3.7 billion for hydrogen-related initiatives in 2024 as part of their wider €57.6 billion Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF) to support infrastructure development, research, and international cooperation to secure hydrogen imports. Several German states including Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Baden-Württemberg have signed MOUs with Scotland to foster collaboration across the clean energy agenda including hydrogen. The European Commission has set a target of 50 million tonnes of CO2 captured and stored across the EU by 2030 🎯. Individual member states are accelerating their own industrial decarbonisation strategies and Germany is actively developing plans for deployment of Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) as part of its broader strategy to achieve net zero by 2045 with ambition to capture and store millions of tonnes of CO2 annually by 2030. To achieve this the German government is prioritising the development of CCUS infrastructure, including the construction of CO2 pipelines and exploration of offshore storage sites. With decades of relevant experience in the development and deployment of innovative products and services to the energy sector, Scotland’s supply chain companies and project developers are in a strong position to target opportunities within the growing Hydrogen and CCUS landscape in Germany and across Europe.
