We are proud to announce the opening of the first Creavis Innovation Satellite in Cambridge. The activities in our new laboratory and office space will initially focus on innovation in the field of nucleic acid-based medicine and cell culture. "The interest in nucleic acid-based therapeutics has increased over the last two years as they have been effectively used to develop COVID-19 disease therapeutics," says Christian Kessler, Head of Life Sciences at Creavis. "With our interdisciplinary team we look forward to weaving our capabilities into the local life sciences ecosystem and advancing the industry‘s growth,” Kessler adds. Last week, the Circularity team at Creavis had the pleasure of hosting a workshop with experts from Evonik on kneading and extrusion technologies for the circular economy. Within Evonik, we develop many types of products and processes that contribute to recycling and thus to the circular economy. Scaling up to commercial scale is a crucial step in any development project. Then it is time to choose the right machine that fits best. We believe that kneading and extrusion technologies are central to the circular economy as they facilitate the efficient recycling of plastics and other materials. These technologies enable continuous processing of materials, high throughput and a sustainable cost structure. During the workshop, we had the opportunity to share experiences and insights from different business lines and departments on various extrusion technologies. We explored innovative approaches to optimize both chemical and mechanical processes with their specific process windows. A big “thank you” to all participants and speakers for their contributions to this successful workshop. The shared insights and discussions will drive the development of innovative solutions and further advance the circular economy. 🚀🎓♻ We solved the circular plastics challenge, ....or at least tried! Together with a group of international master students of Usability Engineering from the university of applied sciences (HSRW), we disembarked on an endeavor to build a digital solution for circular plastics. In a 5-days Design Sprint, the challenge was to develop a web-based application to revolutionize the way we handle and recycle plastics. Our students came up with innovative solutions to facilitate communication along the value chain and to enable the loop towards high value recyclates.💡 Throughout the week, the classroom buzzed with energy as teams brainstormed, prototyped, and tested their ideas. Guided by Jörn Kiwitt & Robert Kümpers 🌍, the students accomplished to build minimum viable products, good enough to decide where to go next. 🛠️ The results? From smart ERP systems to comprehensive recycling platform businesses, our students have shown that tangible results can be achieved in a very short period of time. "We're incredibly proud of the hard work and creativity that each participant brought to the table!", says Karsten Nebe, professor at HSRW. How can adhesives be designed for recycling and repair purposes? Our colleague Nicolai Kolb has just presented our solutions for debonding at the #ACJoining (Joining In Car Body Engineering conference) in Bad Nauheim. “It is obvious that enabling debonding in adhesives is one of the major challenges on the way to a circular economy. The positive response to this topic at the conference shows that this is one of the top priorities for automotive manufacturers,” says Nicolai.
