On Monday our colleagues from Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna welcomed Leo Birnbaum, Marc Spieker and Attila Kiss - the Management Board of the E.ON Group. They were accompanied by Andrzej Modzelewski, the CEO of E.ON Polska. Challenges of energy transformation were the main topic of the meeting. 🌍 Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna (SEC), in collaboration with E.ON, is implementing an ambitious project to decarbonize its heat sources. Therefore, the E.ON representatives first met with the employees of the “Dąbska” Heating Plant, the largest SEC energy source. The discussions focused on abandonment of coal, operational perspectives post-transformation, and the implementation of alternative energy solutions. 💡 The guests visited also Łasztownia, where SEC has implemented the innovative ectogrid™ solution. During this part of the visit, they had the opportunity to discuss the future of Szczecin with the City Mayor, Piotr Krzystek.🏙️ The atmosphere at the meeting was amazing! How to Combine Business and Ecology? 🌍💼   Through technology.   The ArcelorMittal Poland steel mill in Dąbrowa Górnicza is the best example of this. In June, heat exchangers were delivered to the steelworks to recover heat from flue gases (at temperatures of 200-300°C) generated during the heating of blast furnace air and transfer it to mixed gas and combustion air used for reheating the blast furnace stoves. The installation will heat the air and gas from 25°C to approximately 180°C. This complex technical terminology is translated into more comprehensible and user-friendly concepts regarding the anticipated annual environmental benefits of the operating system: 🌿 reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 56,000 tons, 🔥 recovery of 117 GWh of energy, 📉 approximately 10,000 tons less coke consumption.   The project is being implemented by E.ON Business Solutions Polska, and we are proud of its progress. ✨ There is no better time for a project announcement such as this one than during the London Climate Action Week #lcaw2024!    London is getting a new state of the art heating and cooling network!    Together with Lendlease we are bringing our state-of-the-art low-temperature heating and cooling solution to the UK. The ectogrid™ system, already celebrated in Sweden and Italy, is set to play a crucial role in the Silvertown redevelopment project in East London. This 40-year collaboration marks a significant leap towards sustainable urban living in one of the world's most dynamic cities.    ⭐ Project Highlights:    ·    UK's First ectogrid™ Installation: Following successful implementations in Medicon Village, Lund, Sweden, ectogrid™ is ready to revolutionise the UK’s approach to heating and cooling in densely populated areas. ·    Dramatic CO2 Reduction: Our heat pump-based system is projected to cut emissions by 88% compared to traditional gas boilers, equating to around 4,000 tonnes of CO2 saved annually. ·    Enhanced Energy Efficiency: By utilizing smart energy sharing between buildings and local energy sources, the ectogrid™ system can reduce energy consumption by up to 75%. ·    Broad Impact: Silvertown will host the UK’s largest ambient heating and cooling network, supporting over 6,000 new homes and commercial spaces.    This initiative is not just an energy solution—it represents our commitment to a sustainable future. Heating and cooling account for half of Europe’s energy use, with 80% sourced from non-renewable energy. The adoption of ectogrid™ is a vital step towards change.    The Silvertown redevelopment, spanning 760,000 square metres, will transform a once neglected docklands area into a vibrant, sustainable new community. ✨ Thrilled to share that our joint team of EIS and Bayernwerk in collaboration with GIEAG Immobilien AG, are spearheading a groundbreaking initiative for a fossil-free energy supply for a new development in Munich.    🏗 About the project : This innovative urban quarter, spanning 19 hectares, will revolutionise the landscape with its 200,000 square meters of flexible space, encompassing offices, light industry, and hotels, all in one vibrant location.    At the core of this endeavor we're implementing decentralised reversible heat pumps, tapping into groundwater via a network of wells for efficient heating and cooling. Plus, we're harnessing locally generated photovoltaic electricity to power this dynamic space.    But that's not all – our holistic approach extends to a dedicated operational power grid, seamlessly integrating heating, cooling, electricity, and even electromobility sectors, creating a truly sustainable ecosystem.  🌟 We've just secured grant notification under the BEW-Funding Module I, marking a significant milestone towards further exploration, design, and calculation phases.    Looking ahead, we're eager to embark on this journey alongside GIEAG Immobilien AG, shaping a sustainable future for Munich and beyond.
