We are honored to announce that the paper titled "Method for improving the positional accuracy in passive optical detection of space objects", published in Applied Optics, was chosen as editor’s pick. We congratulate Ranga Rosok and his colleagues.   The Institute of Technical Physics developed a method to increase the accuracy of trajectories. It uses a shutter based, high resolution camera system that was designed and set up to continuously observe the sky for LEO objects. An exact detection and determination of the trajectory of space objects including space debris has become increasingly important.   #space #spacedebris #spacesafety #ssa #sustainablespace #sensors

We will be presenting our compact laser ranging station MiniSLR® together with our licensing partner DiGOS Potsdam GmbH. The miniSLR® allows in conjunction with a retroreflector on a satellite (a 6 g weight passive payload) high precision tracking of any satellite with sub-cm accuracy.     We were happy to welcome students of the Purdue University, USA to our institute.   The Purdue students came to the DLR site in Stuttgart for an overview of our activities. We presented our research in the area of space and showed them our miniSLR system for the detection and precise orbit determination of satellites in Low Earth Orbit.
