Exciting updates from the African Union on the #ClimateChange, #Peace & #Security Nexus: Today, we are kicking off the 3-day AU Member State Consultation for the Development of the Common African Position (#CAP) on the Nexus! 🌳 🌍 Designed to contribute to the Common African Position on #Climate Change, Peace and Security, the consultation aims to draw from Member State experiences with climate-related security risks and will review the findings of the Chairperson’s Report the African Climate Risk Assessment (#ACRA). The opening of the consultation featured a variety of speakers including H.E. Aden Duale, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Kenya. The full Africa Climate Security Risk Assessment is now online: adelph.it/ACRA 🌍 As part of the AfricanUnion consultation workshop for the Common African Position on Climate, Peace and Security (CAP-CPS), yesterday marked the launch of the Africa Climate Security Risk Assessment #ACRA. The study was requested by the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC). It is the first comprehensive study of #climatesecurity across Africa and provides the evidence base for the Common African Position on Climate, Peace and Security. ACRA was developed by the African Union Political Affairs, Peace and Security (AUC-PAPS) and adelphi. 🌍 💼 The AfricanUnion is convening a Member State Consultation Workshop to establish a Common African Position on Climate Change, Peace, and Security (CAP-CPS). This initiative responds to the AU Peace and Security Council’s call for a cohesive understanding of the relationship between climate, peace, and development. The CAP-CPS will be presented to the AU PSC for consideration and launched at COP29 Azerbaijan The workshop will also explore strategies to tackle climate security risks across Africa, fostering climate-sensitive peacebuilding and conflict-sensitive climate action, all underpinned by sustainable financing and partnerships….

In Iraq, the Berghof Foundation, in collaboration with its partner, Peace Paradigms, is addressing disputes over #water resources exacerbated by climate change through locally led dialogues between communities and local authorities. On 🗓26 August, our team will be in Stockholm hosting an event that focuses on #WaterSecurity to explore the crucial intersection of proactive, #AnticipatoryAction and its contribution to longer-term preparedness strategies. This new practical note identifies 8 ways to advance peace-positive #ClimateAction and climate-informed #peacebuilding. It provides actionable recommendations for multilateral and bilateral donors, policymakers and practitioners. Insights and key takeaways in this practical note were prompted by a roundtable organised by adelphi, Working Group on Peace and Development (FriEnt), and Peace Paradigms at the FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum 2024 (#FriEntPBF2024).
