Trade Show Marketing Consultant | Schulich MMKG Alum | Elevating Small Business Success at Trade Shows, Conferences, and Expos.
When it comes to implementing passports (to incentivize booth visits) at expos and conferences, it's important to limit how many booths need to be visited and stamped to complete the game. I was at a recent show that ran this incentive, but they required that every exhibit be visited before being entered into a draw. This made sense in the fact that there were fewer exhibitors at the event thus it was easy to visit every booth. The major drawback though was that this still creates less meaningful engagements and conversations. My personal advice for implementing an exhibitor passport is to be more grassroots and work directly with other exhibitors attending the event beforehand. This allows you to curate your attendee journeys and help promote other businesses whom you might already have a strong relationship with. A good rule of thumb is to keep the total number of stamps needed around 5 to 10 as it ensures that attendees are not barging into every exhibit just for the stamp. The collaboration aspect is also an important networking tool as working with other exhibits may strengthen your relationships with brands that work laterally with you in your industry. Plus it never hurts to promote your friends at an event and follow up with some drinks and dinner after, right?
