Much has been said about. Here is the leak of the non-pager on the revision of the CO2 emission standards for new vehicles circulating around Brussels. According to Le Monde it has been prepared by Renault Group for internal discussions within the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) (Source: https://lnkd.in/d-UB4ANQ). Renault's CEO Luca de Meo is also president of ACEA now. The non-paper described the current situation in the European automotive industry: One in five sold vehicles need to be electric (EV) to comply with CO2 emission standards in 2025. But the EV rate is at 12.4% for cars and 7% for vans this year and stagnates. Many manufacturers face high penalties for non-compliance. The paper calculates up to €16 billion, which has the potential to ruin the EU automotive industry. As reasons for the slow EV penetration the lack of charging infrastructure is mentioned. The paper suggests to amend the CO2 emission standards for new cars and vans and postpone 2025 targets to 2027. Unfortunately, the automotive industry misses again to change the systematic of this regulation completely. It makes no sense to measure CO2 emissions just at the exhaust pipe. Instead a more holistic approach should be chosen which takes into account the CO2 reduction of renewable fuels in addition (More information here: https://lnkd.in/eNxRmM2u). Then, the automotive industry would have more options e.g. if the charging infrastructure stays insufficient for customers in some countries. As Contexte reported this morning, Italy will present a proposal to revise that regulation at September 25th at an informal automotive summit organized by the Hungarian EU presidency.

The amount of greenhouse gas emissions per sold Polestar car has decreased from 37.1 to 33 tons between 2022 and 2023.
