🏅🇩🇪 The German national team in Football is a remarkable example of successful integration these days. Recently, my children asked me: “Why is it always such a big deal what skin color and nationality the players have? Aren’t they all German if they play for the national team?” This question made me reflect. Our national team consists of talented players from diverse backgrounds, and they represent our country at the highest level together. It’s time we see the diversity that enriches our society as something natural and focus on what unites us instead of what sets us apart. Let’s be proud of our team – a team that stands for unity, diversity, and mutual respect. In the end, only one thing matters: the joint effort for success and the joy of the game. This message resonates beyond just football and beyond just Germany. Whether it’s the French rugby team, the American basketball team, or the Brazilian volleyball team – sports teams around the world embody the strength of diversity. There is something about #Leadership... 🌟 Tomorrow the ⚽ European Football ⚽ Championship 🏆 in #Germany will beginn. I am excited, since I fondly remember the World Cup 2006 in Germany as one of the best summers in my life. We even have a documentary about that summer called "𝓢𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓶ä𝓻𝓬𝓱𝓮𝓷" (Summer fairy tale). Back then something happened that impacted the whole nation. Jürgen Klinsmann took over the national team after years of decline with lack of innovation and spirit. The consensus was, that we don't have a good national team and the "golden age" was over. We don't have the skills, the players, "it" and others are better. Klinsmann brought in a new mindset. With new experts and new approaches he gave an opportunity to new players. And the results...were missing...until the World cup. After that, we believed again in "that something is possible". Now Julian Nagelsmann is at a similar point creating a similar spirit and belief. I don't know if we will have a "𝓢𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓶ä𝓻𝓬𝓱𝓮𝓷" again. I sure hope so. The times would really need some unity across ethnicities 🤝 , some joy 🎉 and hope 🌟. But for me it is fascinating, that "one person" (more like a team around one person) can move hundreds and thousands of people. By bringing a fresh look on things, a new energy and new communication. Despite the high expectations and the negativity surrounding that position. That gets me thinking about the reality in many organizations, especially with long standing tradition, that embarks on a journey of #digitaltransformation. They also require leadership (mainly the #CIO) that brings a new look on things (new look on the business model and #IToperatingmodel for example), a new energy and a new communication ( Business & IT together across all levels, from C-Level to Developer & Administrator) And over the past years attending #dla events, #CIODAY, Leadership Conferences, discussing with Analysts from Gartner & Forrester but mostly being in the dialogue with CIOs & #DigitalLeaders, I come to the conclusion, that success of the transformation doesn't lie in the most knowledgable Executive or the best designed organization. Success comes for the ones who can bring together the right Team (CIO Office for example) to break open silos. A CIO who can see the whole company and translate the value story from Business ➡ IT and from Business ⬅ IT, a Digital Leader who can excite on Board Level as well as on shop floor, who can adapt the story from level to level and year to year without losing the message. Yesterday, I attended one of my favorite events of the year, which was a great reminder of what I enjoy about my job. As fun as it is to work on practical business applications for new technology every day, it’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. The Berliner Briefings was a great moment to zoom out and consider the societal implications of these technologies in a changing geopolitical landscape. Kudos to Christoph Bornschein and Michael Schwarz for curating thought-provoking topics, captivating speakers, and an engaged audience. And a huge thank you to Donata Leyen, Clara Sophie Spee, Sebastian Cleemann, Antje Zehnpfund, and Beate Ando for making it all possible. A broad curiosity for change is what drew me to TLGG 13 years ago, and I am proud to see our logo next to the Baden-Badener Unternehmer Gespräche e.V. (BBUG) on an agenda like this. I don’t have a LinkedIn-ready list of my five insights with fitting emojis for you. I wouldn’t do the discussions justice, and I don’t believe everything can or should be turned into snackable content. I just have a reminder for anyone in a position of influence and/or interest in these topics: Find other people to have these discussions with. People who encourage you and people who challenge you. In formal and informal settings. A lot of the changes happening can be scary, and none of us have all the answers. But conversation by conversation, the picture becomes clearer.

A company is by definition a team-based ecosystem. This seems obvious. Actually, that’s why companies recruit all sort of profiles, backgrounds, and seniorities. However, too often I see that when companies face a complex #challenge, their temptation is to look for who, a #singleperson, can sort it out. The more pressure they have, the more they look for a single #savior. How many times have we heard “we need somebody to fix this, somebody #reallygood”. We do not specify #good in what, hence we can assume that this person must be good in… everything. This person must be super #clever. #Committed. #Fearless to embrace the challenge. #Flexible to accept our views, but #creative with own ideas. Must have a comprehensive knowledge on the #business sector, while #technical enough to define the right solution. Must be a perfect #salesperson, as the solution has to be sold to all stakeholders, but also executive to #deliver and make it happen. Must be #strategic because we need a long-term solution, but #pragmatic to implement short-term quick wins. Must be #handson, guys, we don’t want a manager, but also must be a good #leader in front of the rest of the people involved. Alas, how unlucky we are, we don’t find this person. Perhaps because these people do not exist and if they did, they would not be available for our sad challenge. If the challenge is #complex, it cannot be solved by a single person. If it can be solved by a single person, it is not that complex. When the challenge is complex, it is more realistic to look for a #team that solves a challenge. A #diverse team of people that together, only together, can accumulate most #skills required for the challenge. Forming a team and making it work is more difficult than finding a single person and making him or her accountable for everything. But, now be careful of the #spoiler: Superman is a fictional character and unicorns do not exist.
