I’ve just found a video of Marc Andreessen outcompeting other VCs in startup funding rounds with their new $7.2bn fund. In all seriousness the split and timing of their mega fund structure is interesting. 2/3 focussing on infrastructure and growth. Rest - the uje. Except for one phrase that I think is just awesome - they’ve allocated $600m to ‘American Dynamism’. I almost don’t care what that means. I just love the notion and will be borrowing the theme for our UK future fundraises. UK Dynamism is long overdue. The United States of Freedom leads the way for our ecosystem and they’re suggesting back into growth kids. Yes inertia. Yes this will take some time to deploy! But back into growth all the same. Where as is the norm in startup land - timing is everything. Congrats to A16z. If you take out what happened during COVID - i.e., dip, spike, plumet (the outline of which looks like the Matterhorn in Switzerland - LOL) - VC deal volume and capital raised is back to pre-COVID (2019) levels. For this cold read, we see a great example of a potential Private Equity highlight but a real boo-boo for the venture #investment world. https://lnkd.in/ezXh_Hcu But why, oh why??! Well, my founder friends. When people think fundraising, they often, without realising, are thinking #venturecapital - but they are not the same. When raising money for your #startup, it is crucial to consider how *you*, as #founders, want success to look and feel like. Do you want to be a 'home run' and exit your company when it gets bought? If so, then #VC could be for you. Do you want to live-long-and-prosper? Perhaps live off the proceeds for a long time, even after you leave? Then #familyoffice or #privateequity could be for you. But you must also consider how an investor may perceive your young #company. Do you create IP? Then, #venture might love you because your *value* is not simply tied to your earnings. Do you not? Then, #retailinvestors may love you, because they want to often speak about their involvement for years to come. So, the key lesson from this video (it ain't a bad #pitch) is to be *strategic* with your #fundraising - don't just assume because you're a #startups you need to 'exit' to raise money. Hugs

Why would you do that? Someone asked us that. Why would a VC fund provide a charitable contribution from net profits to most of the limited partners' alma mater?
