Men's Health in the Digital Age: Telemedicine vs. the Black Market "We lose about 50,000 potential patients to the black market each year," says Dr. Manuel Nothelfer, founder of Wellster Healthtech, in a new interview with 'Handelsblatt Inside Digital Health'. Many men avoid urologists out of shame and fear but prefer digital health solutions. Our GoSpring platform offers a discreet solution: from initial consultation to prescription and medication delivery. Since 2018, Wellster has treated over 300,000 patients, showing the effectiveness of telemedicine. Erectile dysfunction treatments require education and medical advice. Telemedicine provides men with safe access to treatment. However, targeted outreach is currently restricted. Section 9 of the German Drug Advertising Act (HWG §9) prohibits this type of communication for local websites, while dubious black market offers from abroad remain hard to ban. "Blocking foreign websites is difficult. I believe the solution lies in better promoting legal options," says Dr. Nothelfer. A new study by Bosch Health Campus has highlighted the critical role of telemedicine in closing healthcare gaps following the upcoming hospital reform in Baden-Württemberg. The feasibility study reveals that telemedicine can nearly fully compensate for the anticipated deficiencies in general surgery and internal medicine care. Our studies have consistently shown how telemedicine lowers access barriers and improves healthcare delivery, making patient-centric treatment feasible and efficient. Key findings include: - Post-reform, over 300,000 patients would face extended travel times to access essential medical services. - Telemedicine could significantly reduce these travel burdens and improve access to care, particularly in rural areas like the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura. - The study predicts telemedicine could reduce the healthcare access gap from 6% to 3.28% in internal medicine and from 8% to 3.78% in general surgery, benefiting nearly 800,000 residents. Our study with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and data from GoSpring reveal crucial insights: 📊 Key Findings: 63.5% have never been medically treated for erectile dysfunction. 36.5 % of those questioned had previous contact with sexual enhancers. • 41.4 % of the respondents who have already had contact with sexual enhancers have obtained them through unsafe channels such as the black market or friends.  36.1% avoid urologists or family doctors due to shame and the need for discretion. 🚨 Critical Stats: 25% of men over 35 experience erectile dysfunction, often linked to serious cardiovascular issues. Only 20% of ED patients receive treatment, leaving 6 million men untreated in Germany alone. The Solution? Telemedicine! Telemedicine offers privacy and convenience, delivering comprehensive care from consultation to medication on platforms like gospring.de. To effectively reach men, we must lift current German restrictions on advertising telemedicine. The prohibition in the Heilmittelwerbegesetz (HWG §9) on targeted advertising must be removed. This change is essential to ensure digital services reach those in need, maintaining medical care amid a growing population and doctor shortages, particularly in urology.
