During the #TVdebate against Kamala Harris in September, Donald Trump’s controversial comment about “pet-eating migrants” seems to have effectively diverted attention away from the more contentious abortion debate. Instead, the focus shifted to immigration, where Republicans hold a stronger position—particularly with Harris, responsible for border control as Vice President, in the spotlight. As the #USElection2024 approaches, media narratives are evolving rapidly, with migration, abortion, and other key topics gaining momentum post-presidential debate. Our analysis reveals that migration remains a central focus for both parties: 💡 Republicans generated over 2M mentions on migration, with Trump’s “pet-eating migrants” remark alone accounting for 20% of migration-related content. Despite its outrageous nature, the comment has dominated discussions, sparking both support and ridicule. 💡 Abortion, meanwhile, remains a key topic for Republicans, with Kamala Harris successfully linking Trump’s policies to the issue. Two weeks after the debate, this narrative is still highly active. 💡 Pro-Trump influencers like Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson are amplifying these discussions, particularly around migration, pushing anti-migrant sentiment and targeting Harris directly. From AI’s potential to enhance media intelligence to the critical importance of crisis communication, there were many insights that spoke directly to the challenges and opportunities communicators face. 🔍 Fake news was a key focus at the #KKongress. Christiane Hoffmann, Deputy Spokesperson of the Federal Government, warned of rising disinformation campaigns, especially ahead of the 2025 elections. The message was clear: fact-checking is essential. Andrea Rexer suggested that communication departments could benefit from having dedicated fact-checkers to better combat misinformation and maintain trust. At UNICEPTA, we’re addressing this challenge with our news-polygraph research project, designed to detect and counter disinformation. 📰 Trust and transparency were central themes throughout the congress. Whether it’s AI, crisis management, or media strategy, businesses need to prioritize trust-building. As Allianz’s internal studies revealed, trust significantly impacts reputation, sales, and investor confidence. At UNICEPTA, we’re focused on delivering fact-based, real-time insights that help build and sustain trust. 💡In today's age of information overload, effective communication requires strategic transformation. The ability to craft messages that cut through the noise has never been more essential. As Kristin Dolgner stressed, transparency is vital during periods of change.
