Let us look for your leaks!🔬 The widespread use of hydrogen technologies has brought to light the crucial matter of effectively measuring hydrogen leaks. Due to its small molecular size and low explosion level, the use of hydrogen carries inherent safety hazards if leaks are not detected in time. According to the DIN EN IEC 62282-2 standard, the maximum allowable leak rate for a fuel cell/Electrolyzer is set to 5ml/min. This translates to a minimum leak rate of 5 to 3x10-4mbarl/s when divided by the typical number of cells in a stack of 200-275. This standard also mandates that the user ensures well-ventilated conditions, which may not always be possible. Consequently, there may be future regulations aimed at further reducing the existing minimum leak rate. thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering offers testing for fuel cells and electrolyzers, using various methods based on customer specifications. We offer atmosphere tracer-gas tests for small leaks and vacuum technology for high precision testing, as well as testing services for complete stacks and high-capacity electrolysis cells to meet industry standards. Why work from home 🏡 when you can bring home to work? 🌟👨👩👧👦 Our colleagues in #AuburnHills did just that with their great activities during #FamilyWeek 2024. They kicked things off with #BringYourMiniToWorkDay, where #children aged 5-10 joined in on the fun. The kids got to tour the shop floor, watch a cool robot demonstration 🤖, race in a “forklift” relay, and dive into STEM-projects with the Sloan Museum. Then, on #JobShadowDay, other family members got the full insider experience. They followed/shadowed their tk mentor for the day, learned about the company, and even took part in a tk logo scavenger hunt around the building. “Family Week 2024 was a great success! It gave our employees' families a peek into our world and made work feel a little more like home - because here at #thyssenkrupp Auburn Hills, we're all family,” said Madelyn Nichols, GSP. #WeAreFamily #thyssenkruppAutomationEngineering

🔋 There are so many processes thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering’s module has gone through now, but have we actually talked about process evaluation yet? Let's find out how the quality of weld seams can be tested! ❕There is the classic, for one –visual inspection. A camera scans the seams and captures both 2D and 3D contours. The advantage: the method is cost-effective and fast. The disadvantage: connection defects or internal welding defects cannot be detected. 🔎 Another option is the electrical inspection, which uses a special measuring device to check the contact. As one might vaguely remember from physics class: The lower the resistance, the larger the weld attachment surface. However, defects within the seam also remain undetected. Can't shake the suspicion that conventional inspection methods reach their limits where weld seams are concerned? Yeah… that's what they thought, too. So they simply developed our own testing solution. Look forward to next week’s post! #thyssenkruppautomotive #automotivetechnology #thyssenkruppAutomationEngineering #BatterySolutions #ModuleAssembly #tkAEBatteryStory

Why fuel cells like to be in front of the camera? 🎥 Very small particles and defects may cause very high cost in the further value chain, which is why we are analyzing every individual part for contamination and damages in our production systems in short cycle. For this very high level detection task we are using camera-based quality gates. Depending on the specific requirements, geometric features, pre-damage or contamination in the μ range can be detected e.g. with the “shape from shading” vision system. Another vision system ensures that the individual parts are precisely aligned during stacking. This is done by “Parts position check” that checks MEA's position on BPP during the stacking procedure. As you can see, we keep an eye on everything. 😲 Welding the contacting system was a bit of a raw deal last time, don't you think? Well to understand it even more, let's dive a little deeper into the subject! Since the contacting system defines the interconnection of the cells, absolute precision and quality are essential here. 🔋 thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering uses a spring-loaded welding mask with separately adjustable pressure elements to get around the whole lot of potential stumbling blocks: the compensation for cell tolerances resulting from stacking, or the maximum force that may be applied per terminal, or the adaptability required to accommodate several cell types, or various other things. In the end, it is the combination of many different factors that leads to the desired zero gap and ultimately determines the quality of the product. 😉 Sounds tricky? It is. But then again... if it were easy, anyone could do it. #thyssenkruppautomotive #automotivetechnology #thyssenkruppAutomationEngineering #BatterySolutions #ModuleAssembly #tkAEBatteryStory

THANKS FOR HAVING US !!! Mathias Binder of ANDRITZ Soutec AG and myself have been happy speaking about „How to Ramp up Fuel Cell and Electrolyzer Production” using the example of the production of metallic bipolar plates. Company Schuler Group, ANDRITZ Soutec AG, and thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering cooperate to supply a manufacturing solution from a single source and can consult you to bring your product into serial production.

Have you ever had issues to stick a security film on your mobile phone by hand? 📱 It certainly wasn't easy to apply the film precisely, bubble-free and without dust particles. This is exactly what is important in #MEA #production. Thanks to our many years of experience in the batterie production field and countless trials, we know how to unroll and cut very thin foils and grip them without wrinkling. ✂️ Beside manual or conventual automized pick-and-place solutions we have developed a roll-to-roll system. Our roll-to-roll system is designed for the #mass production of MEA with high alignment precision and masters besides aligning the challenge of cutting and joining the flexible, multi-layer structured membranes. Each layer can be checked with optical inspection in order to recognize the microscopically small indentation on the expensive films. This produces quality-tested MEAs in a matter of seconds. ⏱️ Would you like to find out more about our roll-to-roll system? https://lnkd.in/e5wr8HRS #WeAreTheHofHydrogen 💧 #hydrogen #fuelcell #thyssenkruppautomationengineering
