🔋 Electric Cars as Mobile Energy Storage – A Game Changer for the Energy Transition. 💥 To help revitalize sluggish electric vehicle sales, Herbert Diess, speaking at the auto motor und sport congress, advocated for using EV batteries to store excess solar and wind power. However, a significant hurdle remains in Germany: the reform of grid fees. Currently, a double charge of 14 cents per kWh is applied when electricity is both drawn from and fed back into the grid. 🤝 German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has pledged to push for mobile storage systems to only be charged grid fees once – just like stationary energy storage. This change could greatly accelerate e-mobility and the expansion of renewable energy. 🚀 Our vision is to enable zero-emission and zero-cost charging for all. 🚀 New law on bidirectional charging at home in Germany – a major step forward! ️⚡️ The Federal Ministry of Finance (Bundesministerium der Finanzen) has introduced a new law that modernizes and simplifies electricity and energy tax regulations, establishing a solid foundation for bidirectional charging. This law sets clear guidelines for bidirectional charging and ensures that users are not classified as energy providers, thereby avoiding additional burdens. It also reduces bureaucratic hurdles related to tax matters. Key points: 🔋♻️ Definition of bidirectional charging: It is described as an intelligent charging process where the direction of electricity flow can be reversed, allowing electricity stored in an electric vehicle to flow back. 💰 Tax regulations: The new law ensures that users of electric vehicles who engage in bidirectional charging are not automatically classified as energy providers and therefore do not face extra taxes. This applies as long as the electricity is not taken from the general grid for public use, avoiding any additional tax burdens. ❌📋 Reduced bureaucracy: The new regulations significantly reduce bureaucratic procedures for tax obligations. Many users will no longer need to undergo complex individual tax assessments. ️ 💪 After the Bundestag's final approval, the next step must follow: enabling bidirectional charging to be used in a grid-friendly manner (see also the study by ZVEI e. V. | Neon Neue Energieökonomik | Lion Hirth).
