Redefining aluminium production: CO₂-Free with Innovative Electrolysis Technology 🌍 With the testing of an innovative electrolysis technology - in which oxygen is emitted instead of carbon dioxide - at its Essen plant, TRIMET Aluminium SE is pushing ahead with CO₂-free aluminium production. A key element of the process is the use of inert anodes and cathodes made from materials that prevent the release of CO₂, significantly reducing emissions during aluminium production. Supported by the German government 🇩🇪, the demonstration plant will test this technology in three electrolysis furnaces under industrial conditions. The aim is to virtually eliminate direct CO₂ emissions from aluminium electrolysis, furthering the goal of carbon-neutral aluminium production. The pioneering work in inert cathode and anode technology, combined with the increased use of renewable energy , represents a significant step towards greener aluminium. This development could help industries such as automotive, energy and packaging to benefit from the environmental advantages of aluminium and support the wider transition to carbon-neutral production.

Nearly CO₂ neutral foundry sand regeneration With its patented wet regeneration process for water-glass bonded used sand, FSP Foundry Sand Processing GmbH offers a highly sustainable and efficient solution to today's challenges of resource scarcity and environmental regulations. By treating, distilling and reusing water, the process achieves a remarkable 98% recycling rate of essential components, with minimal fresh water consumption. In addition, FSP technology significantly reduces energy consumption by up to 60% through condensation recovery compared to conventional drum drying methods. This innovative approach not only reduces costs, but also helps foundries minimise their carbon footprint . FSP's wet regeneration process is a major step towards a circular economy ♻️, allowing up to 100% of regenerated sand to be reused in the foundry's material cycle, drastically reducing the need for virgin sand. By operating close to foundry sites and regenerating used sand locally, FSP ensures that sand, energy, water and air are continuously recycled, making the entire process largely carbon neutral. This service model not only helps foundries reduce their energy, water and raw material costs, but also plays a vital role in promoting sustainable production practices across the industry.
