ℹ️ International technology group ANDRITZ has completed the delivery, installation and start-up of a new continuous surface treatment line and integrated wastewater treatment plant at AMAG Austria Metall in Ranshofen. 🏭The 115-metre long plant was built on a greenfield site. The Andritz equipment, in particular the spray pickling system, enables AMAG to perform high-quality surface treatment on a wide range of hot- and cold-rolled aluminium strip up to five millimetres thick. 💡According to Andritz, the electric heating of the process with green energy and the integration of a state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant contribute to environmentally friendly production. Advanced digital solutions and modern data analysis methods are used to increase quality and productivity in surface treatment. An autonomous coil transport system, also electrically powered, enhances the efficiency of the production process. #TBWOM Picture AMAG: The new surface treatment line for aluminium strips at Amag is heated with green energy and features advanced #digitalisation for high quality and productivity.

💡 How #gigacastings influence our key industries: The demand for giga presses is constantly growing: Companies in the fields of plastic injection molding and light metal die casting are developing ever larger and more complex machines in order to meet the increasing requirements of various industries. 🏭 This development influences the entire value-added chain. Siempelkamp Giesserei GmbH in #Krefeld, a major manufacturer of extremely thick-walled structural components for high-tech machines, is also aware of these changes and supplies customized castings for the production of die casting cells with a clamping force of 6000 t or more. ℹ️ Read more: https://bit.ly/3xl64wV #TBWOM #GIFA #METEC #THERMPROCESS #NEWCAST Image: Siempelkamp

💡Researchers at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) are working on heat storage at extremely high temperatures using liquid metal. Heating furnaces with renewable energy would be a quantum leap for the #steel and glass industries. This is one of the goals of Dr. Klarissa Niedermeier. She and her team are developing a heat storage system for temperatures above 700 °C, utilizing liquid metal for this purpose. 💡 Essel Mining and Industries Limited (EMIL) has awarded Primetals Technologies the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) for its round pelletising plant. The space saving plant is considered to be a cost effective alternative to conventional pelletising plants and is the first reference plant in #India to produce at full capacity. With a design capacity of 1 million tonnes per year, the plant will process local iron ore to produce pellets for export and domestic markets. 🏭 According to the manufacturer, a #CPT plant is characterised by the fact that the space required for the induration furnace is reduced by 50 per cent compared to conventional pellet plants. As a result, the weight of the equipment and the structure of the building are significantly reduced. The pelletisation process requires less energy because the CPT process is designed to optimise the thermal efficiency of the recycled hot process gas. This results in lower operating costs (OPEX). 🚀 #METEC India, to be held in Mumbai from 27 to 29 November, is the first port of call for companies wishing to enter the fast-growing Indian market and forge business partnerships. #TBWOM Image: Primetals

💡 The development and significant spread of 3D sand printing has led to widespread acceptance and increased demand in the foundry industry. GF Casting Solutions, for example, is continuously researching new applications that can be realised with additive manufacturing, particularly in the field of 3D printing with cold-hardening binder systems (#CHP). In addition, the company has driven a cooperation with ExOne. The foundry's use of 3D printing technology has expanded, enabling it to produce parts ranging from 5kg to 1,100kg from a single piece. As the CHP sand printing process is also suitable for steel and aluminium castings, partnerships have been established to offer these materials to customers as well. 💡 Like all leading car manufacturers worldwide, the Bavarian premium manufacturer BMW Group in Landshut has been exploring the advantages and disadvantages of so-called giga or mega castings for some time. 🏭 #Tesla has attracted a lot of attention with the introduction of large die castings for its vehicle structure, such as the rear underbody structure of the Model Y. This requires die casting cells with a clamping force of more than 6,000 tonnes. 🏁 During a background discussion with Klaus Sammer and Dr. Thomas Kopp at BMW's light metal foundry in Landshut, we were able to discuss the main arguments for and against large castings and gain insight into BMW's specific point of view.
