We empower the diverse talents.
Info
At Startup Migrants, we believe that data-driven policies, diversity and inclusivity are essential to support the cities´ sustainable economic development. Startup Migrants run the following programs: - "Startup Preschool" for the potential entrepreneurs - "First Customer Accelerator" for the early stage founders - "One to one consultations" for the startup teams - "Inclusive Company" to help the SMEs in creating an inclusive company culture. The number of migrant founders in your community can serve as a thermometer of the health of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. Communities with a strong entrepreneurial culture are characterised by a relatively high proportion of women and immigrants starting and running businesses. Our programs are currently running in Norway, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and the UK. We work closely with municipalities, companies and startup ecosystems to ensure that everyone in Europe have equal opportunity to join the workforce and start a business. Startup Migrants was founded in January 2018 by Maria Amelie and Nicolai Strøm-Olsen.

Startup Migrants hat dies direkt geteilt
"Startup Migrants" at VentureVilla This past weekend, we once again had the pleasure of welcoming the Norwegian initiative #StartupMigrants at VentureVilla Accelerator GmbH. This initiative supports international #students and #multicultural founders in establishing their own #businesses and achieving success in their new home. 💪 The #StartupPreschool program was packed with exciting topics: from an introduction to the local #startup ecosystem to practical workshops on problem-solving, customer identification, and revenue strategies. 💡Julius Wolff from starting business | Leibniz Universität Hannover , Lara Tenge from Medizinische Hochschule Hannover , as well as Reinhard Hinrichs and Lorena Winkler from Team VentureVilla, answered all questions related to founding and startups, providing valuable advice to the participants. A definite highlight was the personal #founderstories. Our #alumni Nacim Sagar, founder of #Lemonflow, shared his journey and the challenges he overcame as a founder with a #migration background. Samuel John from Otojig GmbH also provided fascinating insights and valuable tips. Fantastic!🤗 The atmosphere was refreshing, and it felt like all participants could freely exchange their ideas and learn from each other. On Sunday, things got serious: after legal consultations and team-building activities, the participants focused entirely on preparing and presenting their pitch decks. Thank you, Nicolai Strøm-Olsen (co-founder of Startup Migrants), for your passionate work! 👏 You had an open ear for all participants, guided them through various topics in one-on-one sessions, and supported them up to the presentation of their own ideas. We are very pleased with the close collaboration and look forward to future events. If anyone is now curious and would like to join the next event, feel free to get in touch with us! Every nationality is welcome in our villa! 🌎

“I lost tons of matches when I started, but I continued to train five days a week. Nobody took me seriously, and then I started to win matches. I became the Austrian karate champion. It was first when I met an entrepreneur, that I knew what I wanted to do in life” Michael Kowatschew, an impact-driven entrepreneur, investor, former karate champion and former Global President of Sigma Squared Society. On the 27th of May Startup Migrants and the larger.world arranged the first “Global meets Local” meetup at the Widelake Bakery in Vienna. The event was sponsored by Austria Wirtschaftsservice. The goal is to create a community that connects the local startup scene with the international talents in Vienna. At this event the main attraction was a fireside conversation between the founders Lukas Wieser (myflexbox), Michaela Stephen (MATR®), Travis Pittman (TourRadar) and the investor Michael Kowatschew. “Back in 2010, basically the entire startup-community in Austria was sitting in one building” Travis Pittman, the Founder and CEO of TourRadar is a leading online travel agency specializing in multi-day tours. The conversation outlined how it is to be an international founder in Austria, and how Austria's startup scene has evolved over the past 15 years. ‘A lot has gone in the right direction,’ Pittman told the audience. ‘It's easier to hire international talent and find capital in general. Pittman said that he became involved in startup politics when he applied for so many employee visas that the government asked him how the visa system worked. ‘Five to ten years ago, it didn't work very well. “I felt like an imposter. Here I was starting a Startup in Austria, and I did not even speak the language” Michaela Stephen (Matr), the founder and CEO of MATR is Austria's first circular economy mattress solution designed for hotels. It was first during the pandemic that startup events in Vienna started to be held in English. There was a strong focus on the need for conversations across the entrepreneurial generations. ‘It seems so easy after you've received 70 million in investments,’ said Lukas Wieser, the co-CEO and Founder of myflexbox. myflexbox is a company specializing in open smart locker networks. Myflexbox has quickly grown to become the largest provider-agnostic smart locker network in the German-speaking DACH region. ‘But in reality it's a story about failing many times, and just keep going on.’ We want to thank the Facilitator, Jacqueline Kressner, the venue host, Sebastian Carigo, photographer, Jan Tiam Dorfer, as well as to the fabulous teams at Larger.world and Startup Migrants, Lindita Fetiu Sina, Christina Foerster and İdil Berivan Kaya Kaya for making the event possible. #startup #entrepreneurship #founder #network #international

🚀 Openness and diversity are key success factors for startup ecosystems ! Although nothing new but of current relevance 😉 it was therefore a true pleasure to discuss the potential, opportunities and hurdles for migrant founders according to the latest migrant founders monitor 2023 (link in the comments) in our yesterday’s panel discussion „Startup Success Factor - Migration Background“ at ruhrSUMMIT with great speakers and entrepreneurs Dipl.Ing.Norhan Othman Ruslan Halilov Alexander Mundrian High ambition, risk taking and internationality are just some of the arguments why international founders do play a siginificant role.
