The week of the 18th annual HamburgAmbassadors gathering has just concluded, marking a significant event for the city. Under the theme "Great things start in Hamburg," participants explored and discussed the latest innovations the city has to offer.
First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher highlighted Hamburg's historical global connections, emphasizing the importance of the HamburgAmbassadors. "As the gateway to the world, Hamburg has maintained good relations with all continents for centuries. The volunteer HamburgAmbassadors are a strong network that works with great dedication for Hamburg's interests abroad. They establish contacts, support cooperations, and serve as competent local contacts. In doing so, they make an important contribution to the international presence and the common good of our city," he stated.
This year's theme, "Great things start in Hamburg," was particularly relevant as Hamburg's startup scene is making significant strides with innovative concepts in renewable energy and sustainable food production, signalling a promising future for the city. Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, CEO of Hamburg Invest, emphasized the theme's significance, noting that it encapsulates departure, innovation, future orientation, and growth potential.
A highlight of the week was Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The day began with a transfer to the Start-up Labs Bahrenfeld, an incubator for #deeptech startups. The agenda featured a welcome by Dr. Rolf Strittmatter and moderated by Veronika Reichboth, showcasing Hamburg's vibrant startup ecosystem. Presentations from innovative companies like TXproducts, PROVIREX Genome Editing Therapies GmbH, and Infinite Roots® highlighted the city's cutting-edge developments. After a discussion on market entry opportunities, the group visited Infinite Roots® for lunch and then continued for a great meeting at ABOUT YOU Holding SE, Hamburg's first unicorn, celebrating its 10th anniversary, with Laila Helmy, Stefan Tobel and Tarek Müller.
The Ambassador Meeting also saw the appointment of three new ambassadors: Sabrina Tams (Atlanta), Prashant Rao (Bangalore), and Dr. Anh Ngoc Nguyen (Hanoi). Their addition strengthens the international HamburgAmbassador network, which now includes 32 ambassadors from 26 countries, all working voluntarily to promote Hamburg's interests worldwide.
With a record 30 registrations for this year's meeting, the commitment and dedication of the HamburgAmbassadors are stronger than ever, underscoring their deep connection to the city and its future.
