This is Anton Berg, application engineer at Bosch Rexroth. Last year, he was a coach at the #SICKSolutionHackathon. What did he experience there? Find out his impressions of the event in his own words: ⏬
You can learn a lot about yourself in the SICK Solution Hackathon. Even if it's just the side of me that suddenly eats sweets - something I rarely do otherwise. 🍬
But let's get to the important stuff: My task as a coach at the last SICK Solution Hackathon fell under the challenge #makeiteasy. It's not just about transporting something from A to B, but making it as simple and error-free as possible.
Making difficult things simple is the great art. The whole industry benefits from this. Keyword: shortage of skilled workers. The simpler the processes become, the more staff can be recruited.
Simplicity also means making fewer mistakes. The fewer steps and clicks a task requires, the fewer mistakes are made - and that saves valuable time in the end.
Our use case has an impact on many areas of daily life:
⏩ Simplifying the interaction between humans and machines through HMIs.
⏩ Better implementation of AI and chatbots. If you could talk to a machine's chatbot as easily as to a human, it would make everything much easier and more effective.
In any case, I was already looking forward to conversations like: "How are you, machine?" - "Thank you for asking. I have a slightly elevated temperature in my circuits today." Well, that sounds a lot like the movie "2001", only in a positive way. 🎞️
But before that could happen, the participants had to overcome various challenges. Firstly, they had to get the AI model up and running and then connect it to the machine. To do this, you had to understand how the control system works. And I could go into so many other things, but the bottom line is that the participants were forced to think about many small building blocks and bring them together. To do this, they had to apply a deeply human trait: the ability to work as a team!
