Bringing together all available knowledge on humanitarian sanitation and faecal sludge management on one single platform
Info
The Humanitarian Sanitation Hub is a comprehensive, co-created, structured and moderated knowledge and exchange platform. It brings together all available global knowledge on sanitation and Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) in emergencies in one single platform, serving as a first go-to-point, reference guide and as a constant companion for all those involved in planning and implementing sanitation and FSM interventions. The Hub enables and guides humanitarian WASH practitioners with simple, quick and easy access to contextualised, relevant resources and tools – including a helpdesk for direct support – and attempts to continuously fill the knowledge gaps for improved humanitarian sanitation services.

🚨 Sanitation in emergencies: technical options between open defecation and permanent toilets 🚨 Stuck with uncontrolled open defecation until permanent toilets can be built for everyone? This new short guidance document by the Geneva Technical Hub (#UNHCR and #SDC) synthesizes key design, implementation and operation features of several options, including controlled open defecation fields and shallow trench latrines. It also touches on cross-cutting issues such as dealing with acceptance and decommissioning. Important to note that all the options presented in this document are temporary options while waiting for more dignified facilities as soon as resources allow. Dive into the details by accessing the guideline here: https://lnkd.in/dqBbvPZN Thank you to our reviewers Robin Lloyd, Luckson Katsi and Francesca Coloni from UNHCR for their critical insights and feedback. If you have best practice examples from the field to share, please do not hesitate to send me a private message. 💡 New Resource Alert. Benchmarking is a tool for large water and wastewater utilities to compare performance across service providers, capture historical trends, and identify best practices. It’s now being adopted for fecal sludge management (FSM) by cities and regulators. USAID URBAN WASH’s new study examines good practices for FSM benchmarking, emphasizing the importance of including only a limited set of consistent indicators and the need for adequate underlying data systems. The research finds that effective FSM benchmarking can improve transparency, foster competition, strengthen advocacy, and inform decision-making. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gsjXjhMH
