Joining forces for 4 gigawatts of offshore wind power. We are partnering up with TotalEnergies to jointly develop two large offshore wind projects off the German coast. RWE was awarded the two sites in Germany’s latest offshore wind auction. Through the partnership agreement, TotalEnergies will now acquire a 50% equity stake in both projects, thereby strengthening our ties following our collaboration on the Dutch offshore wind project, OranjeWind.

🚨 Exciting milestone for our Sofia Offshore Wind Farm! 🌬️ RWE has unveiled the first turbine blade for the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm at Siemens Gamesa’s factory in Hull—marking a significant step forward for this landmark project! The 108m long blades are attached to each of the 100 x 14 MW offshore wind turbines which will operate at the heart of RWE’s Sofia Offshore Wind project. Once fully operational, the 1.4 GW wind farm would be capable of generating enough clean, renewable electricity to power the equivalent of approximately 1.2 million typical UK homes every year. Each turbine will stand 252m tall, have 108m long turbine blades and a 222m rotor diameter. The total size of the wind farm will be 593km², approximately the size of the Isle of Man. RWE, working together with Siemens Gamesa, will deploy recyclable blades on 44 of 100 turbines - a record 132 individual blades.

“At first, I was really careful about how I was perceived. But as I’ve grown, I’ve embraced being both. I can be feminine; I can be caring, empathetic, and slow to anger, but still effective. Then I can lean into decisiveness, leadership, and strength – sometimes, that’s even physical strength with my farm background.” 🐄 This week’s role model Samantha wants all female Engineers to know that they don’t have to be any way – other than themselves 💯🎉. Breaking news from Texas! We have started construction on three battery projects with a storage capacity of 900 megawatt-hours (power capacity 450 megawatts). Located across Texas, Crowned Heron 1, Crowned Heron 2 and Cartwheel 1 are scheduled to be commissioned by 2025. This marks a milestone, since we now globally have 1.4 gigawatts under construction and 0.7 gigawatts of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in operation.

Planning ahead! We have signed a framework agreement with Steelwind Nordenham GmbH securing production capacities for up to 300 monopile foundations. Given the challenging market conditions, this will support us in delivering future European offshore wind projects. The monopiles will be manufactured in Germany from 2027 onwards and made from Dillinger quality steel. The agreement also includes options for additional services such as the delivery of secondary steel structures, as well as storage and marshalling support.

It’s a wrap! As WindEnergy Hamburg came to a close, we are still energised by the positive vibes from this lively event. Bringing together key voices from onshore and offshore wind, it was a great opportunity to explore industry developments and future trends. We were also proud to see some of our very own experts take the stage as conference participants. On top of that, our Recruiting Days took place during the final two days of the fair. Our recruiters, trainees, and colleagues from OPEA and Offshore were out in full force on behalf of RWE. This included career presentations and two insightful talks, offering a glimpse into what it’s like to work for us. A big thank you to everyone who visited our booth, and to our team for representing #TeamRWE so well. See you next time! 👋

Rain or shine, our colleagues put on their trainers and gave it their all. 🏃♂️ At this year's B2Run in Cologne, more than 100 colleagues from #TeamRWE tackled the 5.3 km course with great energy, joining over 20,000 other participants. Well done to everyone who took part!
