The grand final of the EURO Tour 2024 with RHEINZINK ⚽ As part of our series highlighting architectural innovations in the european championship 2024 host cities across Germany, we are proud to present a unique building from each city. These showcases emphasize the integration of sustainability, modern design, and historical contexts, illustrating the versatility and potential of RHEINZINK materials. Today, for the final match, we are visiting Berlin. In Kreuzberg, the Lichtfabrik, a historic Berlin commercial courtyard housing tenants from the arts and creative industries, has been expanded in collaboration with Stoeckert Architects. A multi-story, loft-style commercial building with large windows now serves as the new main entrance to the existing courtyards and access points. The new structure respects the tradition of Berlin’s commercial courtyards and the surrounding buildings through its design, yet maintains its own unique identity. A standout feature is the folded, prism-like concrete façade, which creates a dynamic play of light and shadow that changes with the sun’s position. For the roof, RHEINZINK-prePATINA graphite -grey was used, adding to the building's modern yet timeless aesthetic. This project exemplifies how contemporary architecture can harmonize with historical contexts while enhancing functionality and visual appeal. Almost done with our EURO 2024 City Tour with RHEINZINK! ⚽ Our exciting journey through the host cities of EURO 2024, where we will showcase architectural highlights featuring RHEINZINK, soon finishes. Our next stop takes us to Leipzig, where a remarkable project blends history and modernity. 🏛️ The new building for the University of Leipzig is situated on the site of the former Pauliner Church, the only church to remain undamaged during the war, yet later demolished in 1968 during the former GDR regime. Erick van Egeraat's design brought a consensus to decades of debate about the reconstruction of the university’s Pauliner Church. The inner-city university redevelopment consists of three main elements: the Auditorium, the Main Building, and the Audimax. The Aula with Vestry (Andachtsraum), a contemporary interpretation of the former University Church, is a multifunctional space used – like the original church – for church services, academic ceremonies, concerts, and scientific conferences. With the original church space and its cross vault as a reference, the vault construction is created from a combination of white glossy and matte plaster work, transitioning into translucent and transparent glass columns. The auditorium space features several special elements, such as an integrated organ and the world’s highest transparent sliding door, consisting of two sections, each 15.5 meters high. This door divides the church space into two parts: the more secular auditorium for various events and the more contemplative 'Andachtsraum' where the epitaphs are displayed. The vaults with columns – where three pairs of columns do not continue to the floor to increase functionality – ensure that the space can be experienced as a whole, regardless of the sliding door. Stay tuned for the last stop of our EURO 2024 City Tour. ⚽ Architect: Erick van Egeraat Photographer: Jan Knoff You can find all the stops here: https://ow.ly/nvYg50SoU4t #germanarchitecture #modernarchitecture #rebuild #remodel

Picture of the month July 🏘️ Built in 1939, the roof of the building once consisted of galvanized steel. However, as part of a comprehensive renovation, the old roof truss was carefully removed and transported to the workshop. There, the roof underwent a complete renewal: the old formwork was removed and replaced with new material. Subsequently, the roof was clad with RHEINZINK using the proven standing seam technique. #rebuilding #refurbishment #metalsheet

Continuing our EURO 2024 City Tour with RHEINZINK! ⚽ Today, we stop in Düsseldorf to showcase an impressive example of modern architecture and communal living. 🏡 Thanks to the renovation of a former two-family villa on the outskirts of the city, it has become possible to unite three generations under one roof. The original building from the 1980s was partially vacant and has been redesigned for the next generation. Architect Ralf Breuer created a forward-thinking solution to meet the needs of both the older and upcoming generations. The two halves of the house were combined into a multi-family home with over 1,000 m² of total space. Two-thirds of the space was reduced to the foundations and equipped with a common staircase. Large sliding glass doors on the garden side allow plenty of daylight and harmoniously connect the interior with nature. The facade in beige brick and the newly clad zinc roof give the building a Nordic appearance. The entire building meets the latest energy and technical requirements as well as the security needs of a location adjacent to a protected landscape area. This renovation is a successful example of forward-thinking, intergenerational living. Join us on our EURO 2024 City Tour and discover how RHEINZINK underlines innovative architectural projects in the host cities! ⚽➡️ https://ow.ly/nvYg50SoU4t #EURO2024 #RHEINZINK #CityTour #Architecture #Innovation #CommunalLiving

Our Euro 2024 city tour continues! ⚽ Today, we are stopping in Cologne, one of the fascinating host cities for Euro 2024! ⚽ Besides thrilling football matches, there is an architectural highlight to discover here: the Museum Ludwig. When the famous museum building was erected in 1985 on Cologne's most prominent site, the task was to convert 260,000 cubic meters of space. A volume as large as the neighboring cathedral. In 2001, the last extension was completed, allowing the renowned collection of the Museum Ludwig to be adequately presented. The urban highlight owes its effect to the facade clad with RHEINZINK material. In harmonious combination with glass, it extends in part to the base of the building. The renowned architects, Busmann & Haberer, also succeeded in perfectly setting the scene with the carefully articulated structure, already evident in the shed roofs clad with RHEINZINK. Today, RHEINZINK complements the aged gray of Cologne Cathedral as timelessly as it does confidently. In 1985, the beginning patina formation of the "bright-rolled" RHEINZINK facade was clearly visible. Today, the dominant outer skin has taken on the typical blue-grey patina, becoming increasingly similar to the awe-inspiring cathedral. #Euro2024 #RHEINZINK #Cologne #MuseumLudwig #Architecture #CityTour #Sustainability ➡️More about the tour can be found here: https://ow.ly/nvYg50SoU4t

The EURO TOUR 2024 with RHEINZINK ⚽ As we move on in the EURO 2024, we are excited to present a special series showcasing unique architectural projects in each host city. From iconic landmarks to innovative new buildings, these structures reflect the spirit and diversity of the tournament. Today we are stopping in Hamburg. The transformation of the industrial monument into a hotel took around two years and required spectacular construction measures. The tower, built in 1910 in the middle of Schanzenpark on an even older underground reservoir, was considered the largest water reservoir in Europe. Since its decommissioning in 1961, the monument gradually fell into disrepair. After extensive additions and renovations, the tower was finally brought back to life. In June 2007, Mövenpick opened the hotel with 226 rooms on 20 levels. The hotel is accessed via a tunnel that transports guests from Sternschanze street on moving walkways into the historical storage vaults of the ground reservoir and thus into the hotel lobby. This eliminated the need for a driveway to the hotel, which would have significantly impacted the park. Next to the tunnel entrance are an underground car park and auxiliary rooms of the hotel, which were completely greened. At the four corners of the ground reservoir, square skylights covered with glass pyramids illuminate the lower-lying rooms such as the reception, bar, wellness area, and meeting rooms. The octagonal ring foundation of the tower was cut on the tunnel side to allow access to the new core. The cuts in the concrete and brickwork were left raw, clearly showing the transitions from 1850 (ground reservoir) to 1910 (tower foundation) to the new building in 2007. The massive stepped foundations are a defining design element in the two lower floors and are made visible through the new planning. Each floor has 16 trapezoidal rooms arranged around the round core with elevators and stairs, which was cast using a slip-forming technique. This technique, rarely used nowadays, is typically seen on North Sea oil rigs. It involved continuous concrete pouring over two weeks, raising the core by 4.5 meters per day.
