Anyone who produces nonwovens for hygiene products is familiar with the dilemma: the hygiene market is highly cost-driven, but at the same time is becoming more environmentally conscious. With Bico Technology from Reifenhäuser Reicofil both requirements can be achieved in one go: Bico combines two components in one filament and thus enables new product properties. The basis weight of nonwovens can thus be reduced by up to 20 percent - while maintaining the barrier and strength. This reduces material requirements, lowers costs and minimizes the product carbon footprint, enabling manufacturers to produce more sustainable nonwovens that pay off. On a manually controlled flat film extrusion line, the machine operator has to adjust a large number of adjusting screws directly on the so-called "hot part" of the line. This naturally poses a risk to occupational safety, as there is a possibility of touching the hot metal elements or the hot plastic melt itself. We recently attended the Central Asia Plastics Trade fair in Kazakhstan, a market brimming with potential. Our colleague, Sofija Bertasa, sheds light on the region's prospects: "The launch of local raw material production has led to a remarkable surge in polymer processing.
