Stress-free test conditions for new #trains – Success story at Bombardier Before the trains from the Canadian Bombardier group can be incorporated into the international rail network, there are some functional and electrical tests they need to pass. In high-voltage test cages, #Bombardier tests more than 5,000 connection points per train under 1,000 Volt high voltage. As the commissioning of such a test cage is not without its hazards, Bombardier and its partner SPIE, a technical service provider for buildings, plants and infrastructures, relied on Pilz’s expertise on matters of safety. Pilz carried out all the calculations, programming, validation and concept development. ISO 13849-1:2023 – Transition period 🗓 EN ISO 13849-1:2023 was published recently in the Official Journal of the European Union. The transition period was defined until 15 May 2027, at which point the previous standard EN ISO 13849-1:2015 will be withdrawn. However, because the currently valid #MachineryDirective 2006/42/EC will be replaced by the #MachineryRegulation (EU) 2023/1230 on 20 January 2027, the transition period for EN ISO 13849-1:2015 will be somewhat shorter in practice. For the remote control of a freight train locomotive from Bombardier, the automation system PSS 4000-R(ail) acts as the interface between receiver and locomotive control system, checking the safety-related signals for feasibility and consistency. As some of the railway control systems are beginning to show their age, the decision was made to renew and replace them. The software-based automation system PSS 4000-R(ail) replaces the obsolete technology and is more reliable, more powerful and more efficient. The technology was exchanged on a modular basis, minimising disruption to ongoing rail operations.
