It’s official! Electra 02 will be deployed in Innisfail, Canada.    We recently presented our first of a kind plant Electra 01, which will start operations in Rotterdam in 2025. Today, Deep Sky has announced the location of Electra 01’s twin plant Electra 02.   Electra 02 will be the first deployment of our Hydrolzyer-based DAC technology outside of Europe.   Operated by Deep Sky at their pilot facility in Alberta, the plant will have the capacity to remove 260 tons of carbon dioxide per year. Deep Sky will compress and liquify the removed CO2 for transport and storage.   Learn more about the Innisfail site using the link in the comments. Phlair. Enabling a carbon-negative future. We’re excited to join CEEZER, the digital platform connecting carbon credit buyers and vetted global climate project developers.   What this means: Our carbon removal credits from our upcoming plants Electra 01 (260 tCO2/year starting in 2025) and Dawn (20,000 tCO2/year starting in 2026) will be available for purchase directly on the CEEZER platform.   Marketplaces play an integral role in helping companies reach net zero by connecting buyers with suppliers.   The great thing about CEEZER:  1️⃣ They have a detailed vetting process in place, which de-risks CDR purchases for buyers. 2️⃣ Buyers can purchase removal credits from individual projects or invest in a portfolio diversified across various suppliers and technological approaches. 3️⃣ You can manage your whole CDR portfolio directly on the CEEZER platform.   Phlair. Let us introduce you to Electra 01. And some big news at the end of today’s post! Electra 01 is our first-of-a-kind DAC plant in Rotterdam. Using our patented Hydrolyzer technology, Electra 01 will remove CO2 at a multi-hundred ton scale from our atmosphere starting in 2025. Why did we choose the name Electra? Electra embodies our technology’s key advantage: it requires only renewable 𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦 and an 𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑦𝑡𝑒 (an abundant salt dissolved in water). In cooperation with our storage partner Paebbl, we will turn the CO2 captured by Electra 01 into a supplementary cementitious material (SCM). This way, the CO2 is not only permanently stored, but turned into a valuable building material. With our Hydrolyzer technology, our plant will deliver carbon removal credits to early international customers such as Frontier (Shopify, Stripe) and Milkywire (Klarna, WRLD Foundation). And now to the big news: we are proud to announce that Electra 01 is co-funded by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) through the €2.5M EIC accelerator grant. This plant will be a major milestone in the deployment of our Hydrolyzer technology. Phlair. Enabling a carbon-negative future.

Yesterday we gave our guests a glimpse into the future of Phlair. It was an honor to have State Minister Dr. Florian Herrmann as our opening speaker. During ‘Break of Dawn’, our three founders Malte, Paul and Steffen revealed our next generation tech made in Bavaria. Our modular absorber modules (the lung 🫁 of our DAC process), and patented hydrolyzer stack (the heart 🫀) will form the foundation of all our commercial DAC plants to come – including Dawn, our 20,000 tCO2/year first-of-a-kind plant set to start operating in 2026. Our panel guests Marian Krüger (remove), Carlos Haertel (former Climeworks CTO), Sophie-Louise Elsässer (CEEZER), and Andrew Shebbeare (Counteract), engaged in a lively and insightful discussion about the challenges and opportunities of CDR and DAC. 🥼 Guided lab tours gave our guests the opportunity to learn more about the fundamental science behind our technology and to take a look inside our R&D facilities. Many thanks to Luise Stangl (Gemeinde Ismaning) and Stefan Drüssler (UnternehmerTUM) for their words of welcome, as well as to Gyri Reiersen (Tanso) for being an exceptional host! 🧡 At Phlair, we enable a carbon negative future. It is inspiring to see that so many people are joining us on this journey.

🎉 Carbon Atlantis is now Phlair 🎉 We’re excited to announce that today, Carbon Atlantis becomes Phlair. Our new name better represents what we do: 🔄 ‘Ph’ as in pH swing: The fundamental science behind our Direct Air Capture technology is based on a pH swing mechanism. 💧 ‘L’ for liquid: Our closed loop system uses a liquid solvent. 💨 ‘Air’ for air: We remove CO2 from the air to help combat climate change. ✅ Our first Circle of CDR is in the books! ✅ Last week, we brought together decision-makers and sustainability thought leaders from companies like BMW and Allianz. Our guest speaker, Robert Schiele, who established the Negative Emissions Technologies program at Siemens, discussed the challenges of building a CDR portfolio at a large corporation and gave insights into current market trends. Key takeaways: 🔄 Companies usually look for synergies when investing in CDR (e.g., technology companies may look for partnerships where they can, in turn, provide their technology to the supplier for carbon removal credits). 🇺🇸 The US government is actively engaging in developing countries to build regulatory foundations and secure access to CDR for US companies. Political powerhouses like the EU and China will need to step up their game to avoid being left behind. Later, our guests and the Carbon Atlantis team had some insightful conversations about the voluntary carbon market, our technology, and the current challenges and opportunities in technology-based CDR. Our amazing chef, Halina, treated us with freshly prepared tacos and natural wines. 📩 Contact Malte Feucht if you would like to be on the guestlist for our next Circle of CDR.

❗Warning: Today's post contains a lot of C’s Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Corey Pattison to our lab in Munich. Corey is Co-Founder and CEO of Cella, a carbon mineralization company providing secure, permanent and scalable Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). 🪨 Taking our captured CO2, they inject it underground where mineralization turns it into stone. Their innovative technology uses less water than other mineralization approaches. We’re eager to see their pilot deployment in Kenya! We’ve added a link in the comments where you can learn why they chose this location.
