“We landed on the moon in 1969 with the calculation power less than a smartphone. However, in 2024, we still know much less about fire behavior than we really should,” says Alexander Held during his presentation on UXO fire management. On Wednesday, we closed our International Wildfire Conference with another slate of amazing speakers from around the world! The problem Alexander identifies is the same we are addressing with this conference. Data and solutions are fragmented by national borders and languages across the world, making it difficult to create unified solutions. We aim to solve this, giving the world’s experts a place to share, connect, and create in one place. Through this, we unify knowledge and make the world a safer place. Our amazing speakers for Day 2: 🇩🇪 Opening Words from Anna Christmann, Federal Government Coordinator for German aerospace and member of the German Bundestag. 🇬🇷 Zisoula Ntasiou, Fire Colonel of the Hellenic Fire Service Official Πυροσβεστικό Σώμα Ελλάδας. 🇩🇪 Alexander Held, Senior Expert for Fire, Silviculture & Wildlife at the European Forest Institute. 🇨🇱 Dr. Dante Corti González, Fire Central Engineer at ARAUCO Chile 🇩🇪 Dr. Martin Langer, CEO/CTO at OroraTech “We must lower the barriers to accessing critical data and the insights. That is my job, what we do. We must bring all this knowledge from around the world together in one place. That is the goal with Wildfire Solution and our wildfire conference," says Dr. Martin Langer. A huge thank you to Emma Gatti for hosting the past two days and all of our customers, partners, and attendees for coming all the way out to Augusburg for our conference! This has been a transformational couple of days. See you next year! Thomas Grübler Axel Roenneke #InternationalWildfireConference2024 #WildfireManagement #EarthObservation

What an incredible first day at Bits & Pretzels 2024 under the theme “Kickstart Europe”! 🎉 We are delighted to have such an international audience here in Bavaria, with delegations from countries such as Sweden, France, Japan and the United Kingdom with our representative Anna Katharina Schennach. Our joint stand with Gründerland Bayern, Bayern International, Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft, Landesentwicklung und Energie, Bayern Kapital, BayFIA, Bayern Innovativ GmbH, and baiosphere showcased Bavaria's unified support for companies looking to settle and grow here.💙 Our highlights included a workshop on the Bavarian ecosystem with insights from Katharina Kees, BayStartUP, Bayern Kapital, and UnternehmerTUM, and a session on OroraTech's international growth with Martin Langer, Markus Mrachacz, and Carsten Rudolph. A special mention goes to Simon Wittmann and Katharina Kees for their compelling insights into Bavaria’s strategic advantages as a business location. We now celebrate the end of the first day with our international guests at our Kitchen Party. Join us tomorrow at our booth next to the beer carousel! 🍻 #Bits24 #successinbavaria #BavariaEcosystem

One of the largest wildfires of the season in Southern California, the Bridge Fire, has had a devastating impact: 🌐 Acres burned: 54,878 🏚️ Structures destroyed: 81 🏘️ Structures damaged: 17 OroraTech has closely monitored the fire’s development since the first hotspots. From the outset, we launched our fire spread model to predict the fire's trajectory and evaluate potential risks to infrastructure. What sets our fire forecasting tool apart? It continuously integrates near real-time updates on new fire perimeters, ensuring our model is always based on the latest, most accurate data. 💡Looking to protect your infrastructure with smart fire forecasting? Let's chat and see how our simulation model can help keep your assets safe: https://lnkd.in/drNnddaC #BridgeFire #WildfireForecasting #InfrastructureProtection #FireSimulation #California

As our satellites are constantly collecting thermal data in low earth orbit, the ability to determine whether the image we are seeing is a cloud or not is incredibly important, as clouds can affect thermal readings. For humans, deciding what is a cloud with regular optical images is easy. But training algorithms to do this in the thermal band, at scale and as fast as possible, is much more difficult. Our Senior Data Scientist Lukas Liesenhoff (Kondmann) traveled to the European Space Agency - ESA’s AI in Space (SPAICE) conference at the European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications (ECSAT) in Harwell, UK last week to present the thesis of our working student in space data processing, Niklas Wölki. His research developed a method for cloud masking with machine learning on thermal images that is robust and reliable in most scenarios, delivering exceptional results during pre-processing. Beyond that, we also developed these models to run in a few seconds on-orbit automatically, meaning we are downlinking cloud-masked data and improving delivery speed. This thesis is a great example of how we combine our innovative technology with data derived from our sensor network. A huge thank you to Niklas Wölki and Lukas Liesenhoff (Kondmann) for their research, and also a huge thank you to European Space Agency - ESA for the invite to this great conference. #SPAICE #EarthObservation #EuropeanSpaceAgency #WildfireDetection

We were so excited to attend and present our developments in wildfire detection at the EARSeL Workshop 2024 last week! 🛰️ Our NRT AF Product Owner Max Bereczky, Geospatial Data Engineer Jayendra Praveen Kumar Chorapalli, and Data Engineering Team Lead Dmitry Rashkovetsky all traveled to Milano to share their research alongside the world's top scientists, managers, and experts in forest fire management through remote sensing. Our team presented cutting-edge research, including Jayendra Praveen Kumar Chorapalli "Deep Learning Approach for Active Fire Detection Using Multi-Temporal Geostationary Satellite Data." By leveraging high-resolution labels from LEO satellites and multi-temporal data, we’re detecting wildfires faster and more accurately than traditional methods. This approach improves detection of small fires and outperforms other current GEO satellite fire products. Meanwhile, Max Bereczky introduced the SERAFIM project—a game-changer. With the launch of 8 nanosatellites equipped with our in-house thermal imagers (OTC-P1), we’re filling critical gaps in afternoon fire observations. The integration of AI-driven algorithms ensures rapid, precise detection and global burnt area mapping in near-real time, keeping communities and ecosystems safe. This amazing project was made possible by collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Bundeswehr University Munich, funded by the state of Bavaria By combining these innovations, we are helping build a wildfire detection network to help save people and land across the planet. Precise algorithms and our satellite constellation are crucial for early detection and efficient wildfire management—closing gaps, protecting assets, and saving lives. 🌍🔥 #WildfireDetection #AI #LEOSatellites #EARSeL2024 #EarthObservation

President @ Collective Strategies & Communications | Aviation, Wildland Firefighting, Forest Management, LEO Satellite activity.
I commend this bipartisan collection of 20 members of the U.S. House of Representatives for petitioning the United States Forest Service to proceed with the acquisition of commercial data from thermal imagery equipped satellites in low earth orbit for the detection of wildfire. Companies such as OroraTech can provide these services to our country now, as they are to many other countries around the world. The United States should be a leader in preventing wildfire and not simply reacting to it. See their letter below.
